Are you a victim, or irresponsible? Why does our society and politicians play the "victim" card so much? In this particular post, I am talking about legalizing marijuana...read this article by clicking HERE. It is regarding how the NAACP of California is on the bandwagon to legalize marijuana...but why do they want to do this you ask? Because according to the NAACP, black men are victims of an increased rate of arrests compared to white males, so they consider it a civil-rights issue. Seriously?
Forget the fact that it is ILLEGAL...regardless of skin color. And forget the fact that none of these men would be arrested for illegal drug use had they not been doing it in the first place...it's called...RESPONSIBILITY!
Luckily, there are many black religious leaders in California that are outraged and who are speaking out against the legalization of marijuana. Thank goodness they see the big picture, that legalizing drug use won't help their communities...let's face it, most of us know people who have ventured down the road of marijuana use. Yes, some are able to control it and quit...but some, if honest, would admit that this is a gateway drug to other things. I have seen it with my own eyes, with old highschool friends...those that thought it was cool to smoke, then to use marijuana, then to try pills and other drugs when the marijuana didn't do it for them anymore.
So, if you know a legit reason for marijuana use being legalized...let me know. On the other hand, can we stop catering to the"victims"...or those who are just irresponsible.
Others that I have heard use the "victim" card:
~overweight people...because fast food places serve fattening food (forget the fact that you can cook your own food, or choose the healthier options, or go to Subway)
~illegal immigrants...because they want government support and to live the American dream (forget the fact that they can have those things, if in the country LEGALLY...it isn't about immigration, but illegal immigration)
~public schools here in Memphis...because their kids aren't achieving like others (forget about the fact that a huge majority of parents do not do their part...out of 120 students my husband taught, only 2 parents showed up to discuss their child's grades...he's doing his job, but parents aren't doing theirs)
~un-wed parents...because they have children they didn't "want" (forget about the fact that sex leads to pregnancy...if you are willing to do the deed, then you are willing to plant the seed!)
I think I have made my point...let's be RESPONSIBLE for our actions and quit playing the "victim" card!
