I can't stop thinking about money issues...the economy, people I work with who are super hard-working and struggling, us having 2 kids now in daycare, etc...the thing about it is that for far too long, this thing called the American Dream went from reality to fantasy for most Americans. Instead of Americans simply working hard, using their hard earned money responsibly, and living simple lives...we took the dream and pumped steroids into it. Wouldn't you agree?
Think about it...for as long as I can remember, we as Americans want the bigger house, with the nicest car, with the best clothes, and so on. On one side there isn't anything wrong with wanting better for our families, but on the other side...most Americans couldn't afford it.
Because of the economy, there are so many people coming to the same reality...we have to live within our means. What I've realized (and this applies to government and individuals/families) is that it truly doesn't matter how much money one makes, what does matter is how that money is spent. And let's face it, once we get accustom to a certain lifestyle, it's hard to let that go. BUT, change has to happen...we have to become more responsible, both as individuals and as a country. So, IF you are seeing more difficult times...think of ways to cut spending. I say start small (luxuries that you can do without...cable, internet-if you have it on your phone then just use that instead of at home, home phone-assuming you have a cell phone...look for coupons, look for ways to feed your family for less, etc)
All that being said, unfortunately there are a lot of people struggling out there...if you are one of them, you are not alone. At the same time, it goes to show how the economy is the biggest issue our government should be looking at right now. We don't need more crazy spending legislation out there. It is easy to live in denial, but that doesn't make the issue any better or doesn't make it go away. The only answer is to address the issue, and spending is the issue. Take that into consideration if you haven't already been to vote yet (we have early voting here in Memphis). Congress, for the last 4 years have been under the same party majority (so Bush's last 2 years + Obama's first 2 have been under the D-party majority) Congress is the one that passes legislation, that sets the laws into place...that's why this election is so important. We have seen spending go through the roof like never before these last few years (let me also be clear, both Democrats and Republicans have contributed to the deficit/debt our country is in...so although both parties are responsible, the D party is generally for bigger government which means more tax money spent)...and although it is on the shoulders of both R & D, we have to elect people who are seeing the circumstances for what it is, who are willing to change our country's lifestyle of over spending, who are willing to make possible un-popular decisions for the sake of our future, and last but not least...we, as citizens, have to hold them accountable. IF Republicans win as it is believed to be, they have a huge responsibility on their hands...and they will be held accountable to do what they said they would do.

God's love
We were fortunate to go to my home church in Alabama today...it's been forever since we were there last, but is awesome to go back to a place where everyone remembers you. To be honest, it was a bit of a fight and challenge just to make it there with 2 small kids this morning, but so worth it. The main point is this...
God truly loves us...regardless of skin color, political affiliation, ongoing sin in our life...he loves us! What I've realized from this weekend...is that most people (including Christians) do not believe that God can truly love them. They haven't accepted them-self...and can't believe that God would. However, please know this...God TRANSFORMS lives. He has done it since the beginning of time. Regardless if you truly believe it or not, God does miracles and transformations all of the time. It breaks my heart to see the doubt in God, to see the self-hatred, and to see the lack of intimacy with God. We, including myself, take God for granted. There is nothing more encouraging and powerful than to see and know people who are truly sold out for God. Once you get to know God, He does live inside you...which transforms your lifestyle.

History-Presidents and Congress
The founders of our country set up a system of "check and balances" to make sure our leaders couldn't just take control. How in the world those men were able to think through all of this stuff back in the day is beyond me...it's truly impressive. So remember, our branches of government are comprised of the Legislative (Congress...both the Senate & House), Executive (President & Vice President), and Judicial (Supreme Court). Anyway, since Congress is ultimately in charge of the laws passed...I was curious to see what party controlled Congress while the different Presidents were in office. (I will admit, part of this was fueled by a conversation where the other person is a huge Democrat...this person always says that things were great while Clinton was President and this person thinks Bush is the devil...as you will see, I hated to tell this person that while Clinton was in office, Republicans were in charge of Congress...maybe that's why this person thinks that era was so great)
The following dates back to around the time I was born (and the bold years are Presidential inauguration years):

Political Passion...
The more I learn, the more passionate I become...and I do mean passionate, not angry or anything like that. I want to actually learn more about government and economics...particularly how it relates to Christianity. I know, a lot of people wish that the two were not intertwined...but that is not the reality we live in. After all, Christianity is not just a religion...but a lifestyle. You can't separate the two. The Bible and its teaching are constantly being attacked, even in America. From what I understand about the Constitution and the First Amendment, it was specific about government not establishing one dominant religion (example: Middle Eastern Countries like Saudi Arabia where Islam is the only option or you are punished). That doesn't mean we can't have religion...so with an emphasis on words, it is more of freedom from religion, not necessarily of religion.
The more I talk to different people about politics, I am curious to know why they think and vote the way they do...and truthfully, to see if they are informed on what is actually going on. There are a lot of generalized comments out there, from both parties...but those comments don't always have a lot of truth behind them. So, if you are willing to make the stupid statements like..."Republicans just use religion" or "Republicans only want the rich to get richer"...then be prepared to do in depth. I love getting in these conversations...and I didn't say arguments.
So, please know...this election is important. Regardless of how you vote, please research it...know where your candidate stands. If they have served in the past, look at their voting record to see if it lines up with your views. Last but not least, realize and understand this...a President doesn't make the laws, they have to work with Congress. So, primary elections are super important. The President can propose laws, but it has to be approved in both the Senate and House...so, these elections are the most important! Get out and vote!

Good analogy...what do ya think? (I Want Your Money)
First things first...my husband and I actually got a date night tonight without the 2 kids. The in-laws were in town, so once the kids were in bed we went to the movies. Since working with 2 kids, I rarely have time for television...so I had not heard anything about the movie/documentary out titled "I want your money". Talk about a history lesson and economics lesson all rolled into one. At the end of the day...I am realizing that economics is common sense in most ways, we (government and personally) have to be responsible with the money we make. If you spend more than you make (whether taxes are high or low, we still have to be responsible with the money), you will get into trouble. Bottom line.
So here's the analogy and thoughts after watching this...I work for a pharmaceutical company! I proudly say that because we are a company that as a sales force, work straight commission. What does that mean...it means we work our butts off for every dime we EARN. So, when business is good then great; when times are tough, they are real tough. Nonetheless, we have to work hard in order to survive.
The history of this company started before it actually began...our founder and other men used to work for a pharmaceutical company back in the day. They worked straight commission and earned good money. BUT, that company sold out to another company...who told them to stop running and gunning, stop seeing as many doctors, and to spend more money on the doctors. Since this was against their nature (they were used to working hard), they started our company.
Now for the analogy...this is like capitalism vs socialism. Our company is based off of the free market set-up: Not every one makes the same amount, some make more than I ever dreamed about...and that's okay. Everyone is working hard for what they earn, and in our company there is no cap (top amount) on what can be made...just like the way America is supposed to be.
On the flip side...(more like socialism) most pharmaceutical companies pay their sales force the same base salary with the same benefits, really whether they are earned or not. What that means is that you get some sales people who work really hard, that do a good job, that have good reputations, and that earn every dime of their pay check...BUT, you also have those employees that just do enough to keep their job, that don't work too hard, yet earns the same pay check as the hard worker. Make sense? This is kind of the concept of socialism...it doesn't reward hard work and integrity, which means it will actually bring performance down.
If the above doesn't make much sense...then we will use the classroom grade analogy. In school, say you study hard and understand the material...you make an A on the test. Your friend came unprepared, and bombed the test making a D. (Capitalist approach...you get what you earn. And yes, some people may have to work harder than others, but that's okay...not everyone's best is an A and Valedictorian). On the flip side, everyone takes the same test...the students still officially make the A, and the other makes the same D...but the teacher decides to take matters into her own hands and make the class average...everyone makes a C. That stinks for the kid that deserved and worked for an A...and the undeserving kid who made the D, gets rewarded for nothing. I know that makes sense. Unfortunately, if this teacher continues to do this...then those that studied hard will realize it didn't matter, and will stop studying as much.
Sorry this has been so long, but the moral of the story is...Socialism rewards negative behavior. The larger government gets, the more America slides toward Socialism. The larger government gets, the more people learn to rely on the government and not their hard work. Instead of relying on our own God given abilities, we learn to rely on the government which rewards negative behavior. Unfortunately, both Democrats and Republicans have contributed to this dependence on government. I truly believe that Americans are waking up, seeing our Nation's past mistakes, and are desiring to be free and responsible again. Competition and capitalism is a good thing; it truly does breed freedom and prosperity for those willing to take advantage of it. If you then decide to sit on your but and do nothing, then you don't deserve the benefits and well being the others earned. Simple as that!

Responsibility
Some think as Christians we should just sit back and let God take care of everything when it comes to politics....that we should JUST trust God and let it all work out.
While trusting in God is crucial, it doesn't mean that we just sit back and do nothing. Like I heard someone say today, we have bills to pay (electricity, mortgage, etc)...and you don't just sit in your house and do nothing and trust that God will pay them. You use the ability that God gave you to work hard, to earn the money to ensure your bills are paid. God gave us a responsibility. I think the same applies in politics too. We either sit back and do nothing, or we take action. You obviously know what I have chosen...it is our responsibility to vote. And to not only vote, but to also know who and what we are voting for. As Christians, we have to fight for Biblical values...not everything is cut and dry in the Bible...but a lot of issues are black and white according to God's word. As Christians, it is OUR responsibility to follow the guidelines that God gave us according to the Bible.
Although a lot of people wish faith and politics didn't intertwine, they do. People not only care about the economic policies, but they also care about the social issues. 2 of these social issues are in the "black and white" category in the Bible. 1. Regardless of what others want us to believe, the Bible is clear on homosexuality. Not that homosexuality is a worse sin than others...but this particular sin happens to be a big political agenda these days. The "world" has tried to get us to believe this sin is normal, when the Bible clearly states that it is unnatural. 2. Abortion...God states in the Bible that He knew us in the womb. Life is precious...you mean to tell me the heartbeat of a fetus doesn't mean it is alive. We have to speak for the unborn, because they can't represent themselves.
On the above issues...abortion and homosexuality...these issues are bigger than ever in the political battle. Some want our taxpayer money to go toward abortion and killing babies...homosexuals want their sexual behavior considered normal and legalized. Whether you like it or not, faith and politics coexist. You have to take a stand on one side or the other...I just hope you stick to the Bible's teachings and don't give in to social pressure.

Seriously Pelosi...
So did you hear Pelosi's latest comments? According to Speaker Pelosi recently, food stamps and unemployment insurance are going to give us more bang for the buck and lift us out of the recession. Hmmmmm...does this actually make sense to anyone? The USDA projects that next year's enrollment will reach about 43.4 million. 43 million people on food stamps...that's crazy!
There are several points to this post:
Does the great Pelosi not realize that food stamps come from taxpayer money? Food stamps are at an all time high, which means that MORE tax payer money is being spent. The MORE food stamps, the MORE government spending. And then she actually has the audacity to say that food stamps will help pull the US out of the recession...seriously, is she stupid? Once again, spending more government money that we don't have seems to be the answer.
Another point on this...my husband teaches in the inner city. Today in class, different kids made comments about how their mom's not want to make more money because they wouldn't get their food stamps. Hmmm, and you think this system is good? Once again, we "reward" people for not working (Don't misunderstand me...I do realize that some people may truly need food stamps. But I also think this should be temporary, not permanent benefits.) I don't think it takes a genius to realize how dumb these comments are.
And if you didn't think that was dumb enough...I'll remind you of Pelosi's comments back when Obama-care was being pushed/passed: (Pelosi made this comment back in March of this year)
“But we have to pass the bill so that you can find out what is in it, away from the fog of the controversy..." (Click HERE to read for yourself) That still doesn't make sense...they didn't know what was going to be included in Obama care at the time, so they had to pass a historical bill to find out what they would include. Makes no sense at all...think of it this way, you wouldn't sign a legal document or contract without reading it first would you?
*Side note...I realize that Obama and Pelosi didn't start food stamps and aren't responsible for the program...my point lies in the idiocy of her comments. We wonder why the economy isn't getting better...it is because this administration thinks we can SPEND our way out of a recession. It isn't working. Heck, if you yourself are struggling financially...do you spend more money to get out of that situation of increasing debt and uncertainty? The answer...NO. Spending money you don't have increases debt.

Amazing Friends & an AMAZING GOD
God is amazing...I received an email from a friend today that almost brought me to tears, and still gives me a lump in my throat now. One of my really good friends from Alabama, and his family, started foster parenting classes not too long ago. They really felt that God had called them to do more. They already have 2 young kids of their own, both work, but more importantly...they have a heart after God. To make a long story short, they have encountered a 4 month old child who has only 1 option to live...the little child desperately needs a liver transplant. For whatever the reason, this child has been placed into child services custody, and could only be cleared for surgery IF he had a home to go back to and people to care for him. So, to make a long story short...my friend and his family has stepped up to the plate...have been cleared to be foster parents...and more importantly, are willing! I could not be more proud of them.
God has always blessed me with amazing people throughout my life...several of my childhood/high school friends were and have grown to be Godly people...I met some amazing and lifelong friends in college...God brought me to Memphis, where I have met some of the most Godly oriented people who encourage me to be more...obviously I met my amazing, God-fearing, and disciplined husband...and not only that, I work for a company full of amazing people who aren't afraid to bring their faith to work in the pharmaceutical world. No matter where we go in life, God will put people in our path to walk along side us. I encourage you to be more than the norm, and to set examples of what a radical relationship with Christ should look like. We aren't to conform with the things of this world...although we live here on Earth, our citizenship is in Heaven. God is our commander and with Him, we have nothing to fear!

Breastfeeding benefits (baby and mom)
I know this is a change of subject...but I have been asked several times why I breastfeed, and it usually comes from people/family members who are older. So, I thought I would dedicate this post to breastfeeding knowledge and information.
Here's a summary of benefits...for infants and the nursing mothers
Infant benefits~(www.askdrsears.com)
Brain. Higher IQ in breastfed children. Cholesterol and other types of fat in human milk support the growth of nerve tissue.
Eyes. Visual acuity is higher in babies fed human milk.
Ears. Breastfed babies get fewer ear infections.
Mouth. Less need for orthodontics in children breastfed more than a year. Improved muscle development of face from suckling at the breast. Subtle changes in the taste of human milk prepare babies to accept a variety of solid foods.
Throat. Children who are breastfed are less likely to require tonsillectomies.
Respiratory system. Evidence shows that breastfed babies have fewer and less severe upper respiratory infections, less wheezing, less pneumonia and less influenza.
Heart and circulatory system. Evidence suggests that breastfed children may have lower cholesterol as adults. Heart rates are lower in breastfed infants.
Digestive system. Less diarrhea, fewer gastrointestinal infections in babies who are breastfeeding. Six months or more of exclusive breastfeeding reduces risk of food allergies. Also, less risk of Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis in adulthood.
Immune system. Breastfed babies respond better to vaccinations. Human milk helps to mature baby's own immune system. Breastfeeding decreases the risk of childhood cancer.
Endocrine system. Reduced risk of getting diabetes.
Kidneys. With less salt and less protein, human milk is easier on a baby's kidneys.
Appendix. Children with acute appendicitis are less likely to have been breastfed.
Urinary tract. Fewer infections in breastfed infants.
Joints and muscles. Juvenile rheumatoid arthritis is less common in children who were breastfed.
Skin. Less allergic eczema in breastfed infants.
Growth. Breastfed babies are leaner at one year of age and less likely to be obese later in life.
Bowels. Less constipation. Stools of breastfed babies have a less-offensive odor.
Mom's benefits~(www.askdrsears.com)
Reduces the risk of breast cancer. Women who breastfeed reduce their risk of developing breast cancer by as much as 25 percent. The reduction in cancer risk comes in proportion to the cumulative lifetime duration of breastfeeding. That is, the more months or years a mother breastfeeds, the lower her risk of breast cancer.
Reduces the risk of uterine and ovarian cancer. One of the reasons for the cancer-fighting effects of breastfeeding is that estrogen levels are lower during lactation. It is thought that the less estrogen available to stimulate the lining of the uterus and perhaps breast tissue also, the less the risk of these tissues becoming cancerous.
Lessens osteoporosis. Non-breastfeeding women have a four times greater chance of developing osteoporosis than breastfeeding women and are more likely to suffer from hip fractures in the post-menopausal years.
Benefits child spacing. Since breastfeeding delays ovulation, the longer a mother breastfeeds the more she is able to practice natural childspacing, if she desires. How long a woman remains infertile depends on her baby's nursing pattern and her own individual baby.
Promotes emotional health. Not only is breastfeeding good for mother's body, it's good for her mind. Studies show that breastfeeding mothers show less postpartum anxiety and depression than do formula-feeding mothers.
Promotes postpartum weight loss. Breastfeeding mothers showed significantly larger reductions in hip circumference and more fat loss by one month postpartum when compared with formula-feeding moms. Breastfeeding mothers tend to have an earlier return to their pre-pregnant weight.
Costs less to breastfeed. It costs around $1,200 a year to formula-feed your baby. Even taking into consideration the slight increase in food costs to a breastfeeding mother, the American Academy of Pediatrics estimates that a breastfeeding mother will save around $400 during the first year of breastfeeding.

What's the most important?
So what determines how you view politics or who you vote for? Is it government (growing government/shrinking government), economy based, military based/national defense, or social issues to name a few? Without naming names, I was talking to someone a couple of weeks ago who doesn't vote the same as me...and I was shocked to find out that we have similar views on the size of government. However, this person's reasons for voting the way he does were because of social issues. Another person that I don't necessarily see eye to eye with in terms of political party voting bases his on education (and know it isn't my husband). I have an uncle who pretty much refuses to vote either R or D, and he almost always votes Independent and wants to extremely limit the size of government.
So, what determines your views (the most): If you read my blogs much, I think my views are pretty clear...but are based on both social and government issues. In order for capitalism to thrive, competition to increase, and hard work be rewarded...I truly think our government should be limited. I also believe we should have a strong military, because it doesn't make sense to want a weaker military who isn't prepared. As for social issues, I go for what lines up with Biblical beliefs...those stances aren't really popular in much of today's society, but I do feel the Bible is clear on them. (2 of the biggest political and social issues always deal with the institute of marriage and when life begins...in other words, I am for "traditional marriage between a man and woman" and am "pro-life".) I understand things happen in life and emotions often come into play, but logic and "biblical truth" have to be the foundation...emotions often mislead us and get in the way of what is "right". Okay, you know where I stand and why...what about you?

Bad government -part 2
I truly am sorry to blog back to back...but I wouldn't do it if I didn't feel it is necessary to pass the word along. So, part 2 deals with Obamacare...and what it is already doing to health care. Just this week I have heard of 3 different issues relating to Obamacare...or the start of socialized medicine here in the US, which ever you prefer to call it.
1-The Principal Financial Group (an insurance agency) announced this week that it will no longer sell medical insurance. Hmmm...I wonder why? Maybe because the cost is going up and it isn't a smart business decision to keep going. Think about this too...as part of the chain reaction, jobs will be lost and competition in the health insurance industry will decrease. Doesn't sound like this helps the economy out any either.
2. The huge company 3M announced this week that it will no longer provide health insurance to its retirees....and 3M actually cited the federal overhaul of healthcare as a factor. So think about this, people won't be able to retire when they have earned the right to do so...they will have to stick it out until the very end or take a lesser healthcare option that they don't want.
3. This issue came up in Tunica, MS where casinos are really the only thing that area has going on...while in conversation this week with someone who works in the area, it has already become known that when Obamacare goes into action...the workers at the casinos have already said they will quit their jobs. Why you might ask...as they said, the only reason they have been working is to get healthcare. Once Obamacare occurs, they won't have to work anymore. I am not making this up! So once again, government entitlement programs work against America. Obamacare will enable people...it will discourage some people from working...it will cut out competition among health insurance providers...and it will make the healthcare industry less effective.
I don't want to say I told you so...but keep this in mind...November is right around the corner! It's almost election time baby!

Bad government- Part 1
The whole illegal immigration issue is just getting deeper in ignorance...today I heard that 11 COUNTRIES have gotten involved in the Arizona vs OUR OWN FEDERAL GOVERNMENT issue! If what I heard is correct, the following countries have filed what is known as a 'friend of the court': Mexico, Argentina, Brazil, Bolivia, Chile, Costa Rica, Ecuador, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Paraguay, and Peru.
So I looked up 'friend of the court' and that definition is below:
Literally, friend of the court. A person with strong interest in or views on the subject matter of an action, but not a party to the action, may petition the court for permission to file a brief, ostensibly on behalf of a party but actually to suggest a rationale consistent with its own views. Such amicus curiae briefs are commonly filed in appeals concerning matters of a broad public interest; e.g., civil rights cases. They may be filed by private persons or the government. In appeals to the U.S. courts of appeals, an amicus brief may be filed only if accompanied by written consent of all parties, or by leave of court granted on motion or at the request of the court, except that consent or leave shall not be required when the brief is presented by the United States or an officer or agency thereof.
Seriously? What business do any of these countries have getting involved in this issue. They have NO say so what-so-ever in this matter...nor should they have had the right to legally get involved. Look at the facts: it is AGAINST our constitution for anyone to enter the United States illegally. Did you get that part? ILLEGALLY. As I have said on here before...please come to America, just do it like every other LEGAL citizen has done. I am not anti-immigration, just anti- ILLEGAL immigration.
So basically you have this...Arizona passes a law that mirrors the federal law (since the federal government hasn't been doing their job, Arizona's gives permission to do what our federal government should be doing...it isn't as if the law is extreme, it is national law)...if our federal government wants to go into court over something, why don't they go after the "sanctuary cities" that actually go against the laws of the land and encourages ILLEGAL immigrants to hide in their cities. That's illegal in itself...at the end of the day all I can say is...our federal government is whacky and ironically, doesn't know the laws they are based off of.

To Save a Life & bullying
Movie recommendation entitled: TO SAVE A LIFE
(we found it in a redbox recently and then liked the message so much we bought it:
It deals with bullying, suicide, unwanted pregnancy, cutting, peer pressure, and more.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Where to start and to tread lightly on this subject...the subject of choice, bullying! For some reason the act of bullying is getting huge media coverage lately. To some degree I get it; only in recent years has internet bullying become an issue that has never been dealt with before...nonetheless, bullying has been around throughout the ages. Now I am not saying that this makes it okay, but I am saying this isn't new. People get bullied for everything under the sun...for having acne, for being overweight, for being underweight, for the clothes they wear, for their home life, etc. But for some reason, bullying homosexuals happens to be the trump card these days. That frustrates me, because bullying is bullying...regardless of the motives behind it.So if you haven't heard, a college student committed suicide lately...the supposed reason is because fellow classmates broadcast a homosexual encounter on the web. This has received a lot of attention for obvious reasons.
First...let me say how my heart goes out to this persons' family and friends. Knowing people who have dealt with suicide, that hurt can last for years and years.
Next...regardless if one wants to admit it or not, suicide is a personal decision...and in my opinion, a very selfish decision. I can't imagine what this individual was thinking, but I do know Satan lead him to believe that there was no other option but to kill himself. So maybe the "bullying" act was horrible and undeserved, but this person made the decision to jump off a bridge. No one forced him to do it.
Finally on this subject...I am a firm believer that if you aren't doing something wrong then you don't have anything to hide. Shame and guilt come from sin...and those emotions can lead someone to do all kinds of things, even suicide. Bullying is bullying regardless of the reasons...just because this particular instance was based around homosexuality, it gets extra media attention. Heck, I didn't have to look too far for advocates...Dancing with the Stars had their own homosexual bullying shout out last night.
First Sign...
All I know is that this weekend, our FIRST political sign went up in our front yard! I've never felt the need for one of these in the past, but as you can tell from previous blogs...I feel that a lot is on the line in the upcoming election. So, Charlotte Bergmann better feel pumped. She is the Conservative candidate for our Congressional seat here in Memphis. Her opponent, Cohen, does not support my views. He is in favor of legalizing Marijuana and voted FOR Obama-care...at a town hall meeting said in front of everyone that abortion was not in the Obama-care plan (we now know that is not true). There are more to his story, but those things alone are enough for me to vote against him. So, my activism continues...heck, if you want to change something...you have to take action right?
