Tired of the "race card" and racism...

I am sick and tired of the "race card" being played. While at work this week, my husband had a little heated conversation with a co-worker. This man lied about not doing his job to my husband's face...walked to the room my husband was in...cursed and disrespected him...and then of course, played the race card. According to this man, the term "boy" (which was used by my husband in a sentence) referred to slavery days. What? Seriously? Being the man my husband truly is, he was able to have a conversation with this man and make amends. But as my husband pointed out to him, would he work in inner city Memphis if he was racist? The guy agreed...No.

Most everyone would agree that racism is bad, regardless of the race being "hated" against. Not every white person is racist, although there are some...and this goes with any skin color, including black people. Today, however, I witnessed one of the most racial things on television. I couldn't believe this black man was able and allowed to say the things he was saying on my television. You could tell this was a local station or local man...and he was literally speaking out against white people. Saying that white supremacy is what our society is based on, is the law we live under, that white people have forced their Christianity on blacks, of course bringing up slavery, and so on and so on...and then of course, our black President comes up and how white people can't handle it. Seriously?

Give me a strong, morally sound, financially responsible, Christian-valued black man...and I would vote for him any day. It is NOT about skin color, and I would love to tell the "small minded" man that was talking nonsense on my television that. You may laugh, but I called the cable company...the lady I spoke with was black and super helpful. I told her I wasn't sure how to handle this complaint, but that Memphis has enough racial problems than to allow someone to say those racially motivated things on tv. She agreed and said I was right, then gave me contact information to complain tomorrow. Memphis has enough race issues without having this man speak out on tv to brainwash others.

Racism is for small minded people...Period. Racism is ignorant...no two people are alike, regardless of skin color. So please, quit playing the race card! I truly think racism is from the devil...it keeps people from loving others as Christ does. Christ looks at the inside...He looks at the heart. That's what we are to do as well...look past the outside and into the person.

Don't ask don't tell...

I played women's division 1 college basketball...and yes we had one homosexual/or bisexual on our team. Once we found this out about this particular player, yes things were awkward. She made sexual comments to a few of our players/teammates (although she was our friend first, so we all never let her take these comments too far...nonetheless, they were still made to a few certain girls). Let's be honest, we made sure she wasn't around or watching while we changed in the locker room. We didn't want her looking at us if she was attracted to us. (Think about it this way, if she was attracted to girls then that would be a temptation for her...so just like how we shouldn't change in front of guys, it's the same concept based on temptation and attraction). I played all 4 years of college basketball with this girl, and she didn't "come out of the closet" until our senior year. Truthfully, it was kind of like "Don't ask don't tell". It wasn't lady-like to talk about sexual desires/experiences anyway...so we were unaware of her situation until that last year. Like I said before...things were always awkward after her "coming out".

If you have followed the news at all recently, then you know that Obama and his crew are wanting to do away with the 'Don't ask don't tell' policy of the military. Today, the House voted to end this policy...so consider this one step in the wrong direction, yet again. I may not have military experience, but I have had experience with this concept as mentioned above. There are serious complications regarding open homosexuals serving in our military. As with basketball, the military is a team...but they are the ultimate team. They defend our country and must work together in close unity. This leads to one huge issue...showering and sleeping arrangements. If someone isn't able to control their homosexual desires, then the shower and sleeping arrangements could become a tense and awkward situation for all involved. Another aspect people don't think about: when soldiers get injured, many times it may be their own people to give blood. According to the FDA, men who have had sex with another male since the late 1970's can't give blood...that alone tells you something and also could hinder other soldiers.

Yet again, our President is leading our country in the wrong direction. He truly is so set on pushing HIS agenda, that he is going against the Pentagon's wishes of wanting to conduct a study before this thing gets voted on. Who better to tell the leaders of military what works best and what would be best than those serving? Instead of listening to those actually serving our country, Obama is pushing this thing through...remind you of anything??? Healthcare...the majority of Americans didn't and don't want THIS version of Healthcare reform, and yet Obama is so narcissistic that He thinks His plan is best...regardless of what the people want. This is exactly what he is doing to our military now...not willing to listen in order to push his own agenda and promises. Afterall, this next quote is copied directly from the transcript of Obama hosting a party for the LGBT community last year, "I will continue to be an ally and a champion and a President who fights with you and for you." That's your President...being a champion of special interests groups and not the PEOPLE as a whole. Wake up America...our President is leading us in a moral decline, an economic decline, a military/national security decline...are there many things more important?

Daddy's and their girls...

I mentioned a few posts back about the book I am reading, "Bringing Up Girls" by Dr. James Dobson. While waiting in an office today, I got to read a few more pages and was mildly reflecting on my own life. The chapter was on 'Why Daddies Matter'...and there were several exerts from girls that were all at a conference, but they were all talking about their dads. Some were super supportive, loving, complementing, etc...but a huge majority of these girls' fathers were anything but that. It is amazing to reflect on my own father...and for those of you who know me, know that he passed away last July. Was he perfect? not at all...but he was loving and supportive. Looking back, I truly think that made a huge difference in my self-esteem, upbringing, confidence, etc. Dad's are super important to their children, both girls and boys...and obviously, mom's are too! However, at the end of the day...our role as parents is to point our children toward God. If we aren't doing that, then we aren't doing what God has called us to do.

Here are a couple of things I underlined in the book:
"there are no perfect mothers and fathers, just as there are no perfect human beings. We are all flawed and selfish and shortsighted at times."
"I hope you won't confuse your earthly fathers with the love of our heavenly Father. Human beings will fail you at times, but God never rejects, ignores, insults, or disdains His children."

You are HERE today...

I'm gonna try to make this quick and simple if possible...but have you ever thought how amazing it is that we are all HERE on Earth today? The reason I say this...look at everything our ancestors had to endure to survive, to get us here today. This thinking started at the movies over the weekend during 'Robin Hood'. It was showing scenes from a war between the English and French, which got my mind going. All of us here in the United States today have ancestors that immigrated to this new land. Before they were able to do that, they had to battle war, disease, and all kinds of things that we don't have to battle for the most part. I hope this is making sense, but so many lives were lost back in the day...but someone in our heritage survived...and our family lineage kept going. This was slightly touched on in church today too:
We all came from Adam & Eve...then God pretty much started things over with Noah & his family on the Ark...and then you get to the Tower of Babel, which God mixed everyone's language up (babel) and made many nations...and hopefully you get the picture by now.
My point, we are HERE for a reason! God has allowed our lineage to continue, and that isn't by accident. He desires to have a relationship with us...and desires for us to glorify Him. The fact that we are alive today should be proof enough that He loves us and has a greater plan.

Prayer needed...too close for comfort

Right across the Mississippi River from Memphis is West Memphis, Arkansas. Please keep this city and community in your prayers! I have worked this area as part of my territory for going on 8 years. Close to one of the doctor's offices that I call on...2 police officers pulled over a white van...and both were shot and killed. That began the chaos for West Memphis today. Both officers had families with young children, and one of them was the Chief of Police's son.
There are 2 bridges that cross into Memphis and both were shut completely down while other law enforcement looked for the killers. About an hour and half later, the van was spotted in the WalMart parking log which is within a mile or two away from the initial shooting. The suspects were shot and killed in a shoot out, while still being in the WalMart parking lot. 2 other officers were shot and taken to the trauma hospital here in Memphis for surgery, and both of them have lived. It is so hard to believe all of this has happened within about 10 miles from where we live. Like I said, I work this area every couple of weeks...and was just there on Monday. If all of this would have taken place on Monday, I would have been around all of it. We shop at that WalMart and I have to go to the pharmacy there for work. My heart goes out to all of those involved. There hasn't been a lot of information come out on the killed suspects yet...just the possible connection to a white supremacist hate group, but no conformation yet. Keep our law enforcement in your prayers...after all, there primary goal is to protect us.

Good Parenting Book

Just a suggestion for those of you interested in parenting books...my husband gave me "Bringing Up Girls" for Mother's Day. I rarely make time to read, but considering I had to take the 3 hour glucose test yesterday I had time to sit and read. (I passed it by the way!) What a good book and very encouraging. This book truly puts things in perspective. I have only made it through the first 65 pages (I had to take a nap during my 3 hour test...couldn't just sit there and not sleep a little) but it talks of the importance of motherhood on young children within the first few years of life...how that builds confidence, self esteem, etc. It also talks about things that I feel guilty of from time to time...being busy, overworked, too tired, etc...and at the end of the day, our kids are still the most important thing and we can't get that time back. If you don't have a daughter, then know he wrote a book years ago specific to raising boys...I believe the name is "Bringing Up Boys". So, check it out!

Listen up if you live in Shelby County, TN

HOLY COW...I just saw on the news that there appears to be a viable candidate for Congress! I will admit first impressions are skeptical, but this option truly appears to be the best choice for our 9th district vote for Congressman. According to everything I have looked up on the internet, our district always votes democratic and has a majority of African-Americans in it. However, I truly hope that everyone out there wakes up and looks at our candidates: Cohen has been our representative for years...if I agreed with his decisions on voting, then he would be a good choice. However, he voted for healthcare reform...at a town hall meeting I attended he knowingly lied about abortion being in the healthcare bill...and obviously doesn't represent my beliefs. On the other hand, he is still a better choice than his democratic opponent, Willie Herenton. This guy was our mayor for over 20 years, ran our city in the ground, and runs primarily on race...even today on the news he was talking against Cohen for being a white man and in his last election made comments about "shaking the haters off" (white people). This guy would be the biggest embarrassment to represent us in DC.
So, it is safe to say that neither Cohen or Herenton will get my vote...and today, I saw that there is actually a 3rd candidate! A conservative, black business woman...who is a Christian, a tea-party goer, who is against healthcare reform, for our military, etc...her name:
CHARLOTTE BERGMANN...and unless something comes out on her, she will definitely be getting our vote! I am so excited to actually have someone to vote for. That was my biggest concern, that I wouldn't have a person to cast my vote for. So, look Charlotte Bergmann up if you live in this area. And although Cohen isn't the best, if you must vote democrat then just don't vote for Herenton...he's terrible!

"MILK day" in CA

So I have realized that many of my recent posts are so critical...and that truly bothers me. However, I truly feel that it is my duty to bring about information that everyone else might not have access too or know about. Unfortunately, most of these issues are more alarming to me than anything...and this blog post isn't any different.
So...i have decided that California schools and some of their employees are pushing things a little too far: the American Flag/God bless America drawing took place out there, the students wearing the American flag on their shirts got kicked out of school for the day, there has been recent teachers blasting the immigration issue and pushing their own Hispanic agenda...and now...

CA public schools are able to have "MILK day". Remember the movie that came out recently "MILK" about the homosexual politician? That is what this day refers to...the celebration of him and what he represented. It is so disturbing that the public schools would allow this to take place. I obviously do NOT agree with this at all...and would be irate if my child was in a school system out there. Why does our government affiliations feel the need to push these agendas? These schools should remain neutral on these issues and not promote them...parents should have the responsibility to teach their own children on these issues, whether right or wrong. If you want to see an article written on this click HERE.
We need to start praying for our schools and those in charge in every state, but after all of these recent situations in CA...pray for them especially too!

Nashville Flood & Media Coverage...

So this is definitely long overdue...but keep the victims of the Nashville flood in your prayers!
I have several friends that live in that area & luckily their immediate homes were not damaged. Literally one of them came within about 5 feet of having her house damaged by the water. Her neighborhood got flooded very badly and even she even had neighbors rescued from their roof tops. Another friend's dad lost his business...he was the sole worker and owner...and has now lost his income. So please keep them all in your prayers.
Now for an article that I read earlier and wanted to share...Click HERE.
It is written by an African-American who talks about the media indifference regarding coverage of the Nashville floods. I've vaguely thought about this, but I guess due to the lack of media attention I didn't truly notice it either. However, it is true when you stop and think about it. Places like the Grand Ol' Opry & Opryland Hotel were flooded...keep in mind the majority of these places and homeowners didn't have flood insurance. So, a lot of them are "screwed" for the lack of better words. Undoubtedly there was a fundraiser by some of the Nashville stars...but I didn't know a think about it. However, when Katrina hit...everyone and their mom was on tv raising money. So, check out this article that is on WWW.ONENEWSNOW.COM or obviously click the HERE link above. It is another bit of proof in the way media decides to cover some things and not others...and most of us never notice it because we don't often see what we aren't aware of. Hope that makes sense. Keep the Nashville area in your prayers...there is a long recovery ahead.

Enough is Enough...

So we can't celebrate the American flag now...welcome to America! That's just RIDICULOUS! So maybe you have heard of these 2 instances that have happened within the last couple of weeks.
Example 1--last week on May 5 (Cinco de Mayo), students in a California highschool wore t-shirts that had an American flag on them...and what do you know...they got kicked out of school by the administration, for wearing an American Flag on their t-shirt. The superintendent did the proper thing and overturned their punishment...but seriously, that's ridiculous that the school administration took things to that level.
Example 2--I heard this on the radio and just saw the same story on television (and yes I don't care to say it...the main media hasn't reported on this, only alternative media outlets) BUT, at a different California school the teacher asked her students to draw something patriotic. A particular female student drew a picture of an American Flag and the words "God bless America"...the teacher told her that she was offended and embarrassed the girl in front of everyone. On the other hand, a different student drew a picture of President Obama...and the teacher praised this student's work. Ummm, do you think there is a problem there? Now students can't draw the flag either...Ridiculous!
What is our country coming to? Now we can't say the pledge, can't pray at commencement, can't show the American flag...ridiculous! Last time I checked...we live in AMERICA, which like any other country has a flag!

Consequences of Voting...

ELENA KAGAN...This nominee is a consequence of voting Obama into Presidential office.

Here's the thing...I hate being a person that constantly criticizes our President. BUT, it is so hard for me to compliment someone's decisions when they are consistently out of line with what I believe! I am PROUD to say I did NOT vote for this man. I truly think he fooled the majority of Americans by the whole "change" slogan. On the other hand, I know people that probably did most of their homework and still support him. Regardless, let this be a lesson for the future...WHEN WE VOTE FOR A PRESIDENT, WE VOTE FOR THEIR SUPREME COURT NOMINEES! This has always been one of my arguments when people think voting doesn't matter...or when people think that if the President doesn't act properly they will just be voted out after their 4 years is up. Supreme Court Justices are judges in our highest courts...and how do they get nominated? By our President. So, on to Obama's most recent nominee...Elena Kagan.

This woman has an incredible resume...Dean of Harvard Law School is amazing in itself. BUT, to be a Supreme Court Justice, one would assume she has a lengthy background as a judge...WRONG. She has never been a judge before, which seems crazy to be nominated. To my knowledge, she has almost always been in the professor and law school rankings...
It just looks like experience would be a qualification for one of the highest jobs in America. That is the first issue...then, you can throw in her activism issues of homosexuality. While at Harvard, she wouldn't allow the ROTC/military to recruit because of the homosexual issue...that got overturned in court...and yet we want to vote her into this office based on her decisions and activism?
Now let me clarify and make one thing clear...I am not saying that a homosexual can't perform their job properly or well for that matter. BUT, if this is her ideology, and belief system...then that will come in to play as a judge...how could it not? If I were a judge, my belief system and foundation of Christianity would absolutely factor into my decision making...and does in my every day life. It isn't like a doctor, whom I call on, that is great at his surgeries. I truly don't think his job is affected by his sexuality. BUT, a judge who gets to pass judgment on everyone in America and who has a history of activism on this particular issue. You are crazy to think she won't vote in favor of things that are against the conservative beliefs.
Keep in mind this woman is young...50. If, and more than likely when, she gets voted into office...she will be there for along time. You are looking at probably 30-40 years. That truly doesn't seem like a good idea to me! So, next time we get to vote on our President...you must think of more than JUST voting for one man...you are voting for many appointed positions too. Just make sure you line up your beliefs, morals, ideologies, and values as much as possible.

HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY...

I just wanted to give a shout out to the Mom's out there...and those that wish to become a mom. Since becoming a Mom, I have gained sooo much more respect for my own mother and the "fun" things I put her through! I don't know how both my mom and dad were able to work, and then follow me literally all over the US to play sports growing up. I have only been at this motherhood thing for 2 years now, and find myself completely worn out at times...but it is sooo worth it!
I am so blessed to have the privilege of being a MOM...I truly pray that my friends that have the desire to become mothers get that blessing one day. I know some have been trying for years, and others are just starting to try...none the less, those of us that have been fortunate to have children should be thankful. They truly are a miracle and blessing!
I hope you have a Happy Mother's Day!

Have fun at work...

One thing I always try to do is make my job fun...I'm in sales and love being able to tap into my creative side. I truly feel that it breaks up the routine for me, and for the people that I call on. So, that is my quick encouragement for those of you reading...have fun with whatever it is you do for work. Work could be staying at home with your children, teaching, seeing patients, or obviously anything else. Make small challenges for yourself to keep it entertaining....although I get worn out from work, I truly enjoy it. My goal, is to be a positive light to those I encounter....I truly want them to know I am a Christian by my optimism and attitude, my actions, and hopefully my conversation. Is there anything you do to keep work refreshing and/or to be a reflection of Christ? I look at it this way...we spend more time at work than we do with our whole family most of the time. If that is the case, we shouldn't dislike it...we shouldn't let it ruin our home life. Therefore, make it enjoyable...set little goals to accomplish throughout the day...and most importantly, don't let it affect your personal life in a negative manner. I know this happens to all of us from time to time, but don't make it an every day issue! Hope you have a good day!

What do they have in common?

Unless you've been in a cave, you should have seen the "almost" bombing in New York's Time Square. Faisal Shahzad, a naturalized citizen originally from Pakistan is the lead suspect...it's reported that he had been to the Middle East recently and perhaps trained with Islamic terrorist over there. Fortunately for New York...the bomb didn't go off.
Back track several months to November 2009...remember the Fort Hood shooting? Nidal Hasan was the shooter there and charged in that mass murder crime. In case you forgot, he was of the Muslim religion.
The most famous terrorist attack in our country...911. Who was behind that? Bin Laden and his crew you might answer.
What do they all have in common? Their religion...and yet, our administration wants to be BFF with these Muslim countries. What does it take to wake up and smell the poop? It isn't Christians or Jews trying to blow Americans up! It is the radical, extreme Islamic folks. I know a lot of people do not want to hear this...but as we all know, the truth hurts sometimes! As we've probably all heard before...if it walks like a duck, and quacks like a duck...it's a duck! Same principle applies here!

Shout out!

I just wanted to give a "shout out" to those of you who take the time to read this blog!
Some comment fairly often, some send emails for responses, and then some of you mention this blog in conversation...I appreciate it. Every little comment, regardless of how often keeps me going! I truly enjoy this blog and as you can tell...it doesn't take too much to get me going these days. Politics seems to be a hot topic, but then you have others like religion, the hustle and bustle of life, parenting, etc...so, feel free to comment whether you agree of disagree. I definitely have friends and family that don't see eye to eye with me...but atleast you can see where I am coming from most of the time. I hope you are all doing well and thanks for following along!
By the way, if you have a blog then please let me know...I would love to read yours too!

Immigration protests?

I will try to make this quick...so you tell me that people around the country are protesting in favor of something that is against our law? There are so many reasons that we have laws that allow immigrants to enter the country in a legal matter. We, as a country, need to know who is entering our country...there is health and disease reasons, national security reasons, and obvious financial reasons for needing to keep records of who is here. I'm sure there are other reasons too.
For those that are crossing the border from Mexico...I don't understand why you are mad at our government. If Mexico is so bad that you want to leave your own country, then it looks like you would be mad at the Mexican government for not making things better there.
After all, it isn't like people are risking everything to cross into Mexico illegally...people aren't dying to break into countries like China, Iran, and Venezuela (those who have super controlling governments). There is a reason that people want to come to America...FREEDOM and OPPORTUNITY! How can you say America is wrong for wanting to keep track of those who enter our country? There is more to it than just race. It truly isn't about race at all...please, if things are bad in your country...then come to America. Get away from the tough environment you live in...just do it legally and actually contribute to our economy and society in the right way!
