Quick Update
For those of you reading, I have sad news...my cousin's baby didn't survive. My cousin went into labor yesterday morning at about 23 weeks gestation. Her little girl passed away minutes after delivery. My heart goes out to them, so please keep them in your prayers. I can't imagine delivering a baby, but not being able to bring her home. Thanks.

Prayer Request
I have a prayer request for those of you reading this...my first cousin, who has been much more like a sister to me over the years, has some tough days ahead for her and her family. She has a husband and 4 year old daughter. Since her daughter, they have attempted to grow their family. She had a miscarriage, and then got pregnant again. This time (the 3rd pregnancy), started off okay and then the bleeding began. To the best of my understanding, not everything connected correctly inside her. A blood vessel did not attach to the placenta, which caused the bleeding. Doctors gave her a 50/50 chance of the baby surviving. The blood makes her body want to have contractions. She is currently 22 weeks...
Yesterday, her water broke...this obviously means she will have to deliver the baby soon. The chances of survival are slim and the baby would probably have severe issues because it is so early. Please pray for them...Thanks and Merry Christmas!

What sport do the best atheltes partake in?
You always hear the debate...or maybe not always, but it is out there! What sport has the best athletes? Tiger Woods just got "Athlete of the decade" because he has been so dominant in the sport of golf. To be as consistent as he has been...he probably deserves that award. However, we know his strength and hand-eye coordination is amazing...but we all see huge overweight men who are good at golf. For that reason, I don't think golf is it.
What about basketball, football, softball, volleyball...I definitely think there are incredible athletes in all of these sports. Running, jumping, hitting, swinging, shooting, etc...I played college basketball with and against some great athletes, but I still don't think it is the best.
I will give soccer alot of credit...I don't know a ton about it, but from the endurance standpoint and conditioning it has to be ridiculous to play at a high level. But, they are the best in my opinion either.
After going to a UFC (Ultimate Fighting) event this past weekend...those guys are the best athletes in my opinion. Let me clarify...the elite, champions, of the UFC are the best athletes. I have learned a lot about wrestling from my husband over the years. The mental aspect of cutting weight, conditioning, and knowing all of the counter-moves to the offensive moves...not to mention you depend on yourself; there aren't other teammates. In mixed martial arts, which is the UFC...wrestling is just one aspect. You then throw in the combined sports they have to be great at to reach the top level...boxing, kickboxing, jiu-jitsu, karate, conditioning, cutting weight, submissions, wrestling...it's amazing.
Let me know what you think...and when you respond, let me know why you think like you do.

Alabama's First Heisman...
Can I get another Roll Tide!!!!! For the first time in our football program, we have a winner...a Heisman Trophy winner! After growing up an Alabama fan and going to games, I can't believe we have never had a Heisman winner before now. Think about all of the greats who have played there. Anyway, tonight that all changed. Congratulations Mark Ingram. Yes I am biased, but I honestly can't even believe it was close. The SEC has been dominant this year. It was and is the best football conference. So if Mark Ingram has rolled over every opponent (with the exception of one), how was it even close? He was running against the best defenses in the country. Atleast most of the voters saw it that way too...ROLL TIDE ROLL.
On another note, let's discuss one more collegiate football player...Tebow. Did he seriously finish 5th? That's crazy to me too. Yes he has had a ridiculous amount of media attention over the years, and I somehow feel like that hurt him. People have got tired of hearing about him. How do you break Herschel Walker's rushing record and get 5th place? Once again, I think Tebow has been so consistent and so good, that it is expected. He hasn't been able to have an amazing game and year, because he does it every time.
Well...as Alabama fans, we have one more award to take home...the National Championship!

Congress wants their hands in everything!
I'm sitting here watching the news when the following headline showed up...Congress to get involved in the college BCS issue. A Texan representative said the only way there will be a play off system in the BCS is for Congress to act on it. Seriously? Seriously?
Between the crazy Healthcare issue & the ridiculous "Cap & Trade" (aka Cap & Tax issue)...don't you think they have enough on their plate? I love how they are dipping their hands in everything. The comment on the college BCS is that the current system isn't fair...tough crap! Life isn't fair. Everything is not equal, no matter how much they want it to be that way.
It is like the same ole analogy that I'm sure we have all heard...imagine the situation:
You are in college when the professor passes out grades. You have worked your tail off and made A's on every grade. Therefore, your grade would be an A. When you receive your final grade, you get a C. When questioning the professor, you realize what he did. He says, everyone didn't make A's like you. Some didn't show up to class or study hard...they made F's. To make everyone equal, I gave you all C's whether it was earned or not. Now how would that make you feel? Honestly for me, I would be irate! I worked hard in college...I got what I deserved, a 3.5 gpa. You think I wouldn't have gone crazy if given a 2.5 I didn't earn?
In theory, this is exactly what our government is doing in so many different aspects. I see people everyday who want "free" healthcare, but yet don't want to work for it.
It's also like the world leaders who have been meeting in Copenhagen...this so called "crisis" on our environment. If carbon and gas are such a big deal...then why were they all so eager to fly in on their private jets and literally rent out all of the limos in the entire area. What a double standard! Talk about hypocrisy!
So here is my message to our government...stay out of our lives! We, as Americans, can take care of ourselves with the help of God, not government! For those of you out there who don't keep up, they are truly trying to control Americans and hope we just sit by and do nothing. This is their attempt at equality...but that isn't reality. We were all created equal, but that doesn't mean we are equal!

Can I get a ROLL TIDE ROLL!
ROLL TIDE ROLL!
Alabama 32-Florida 13
Pasadena get ready...the Tide will come rolling in soon!
I just wanted to give a quick shout out to all of you Alabama fans out there...or those who were just pulling against Florida! Growing up about an hour from Tuscaloosa, it was hard not to be an Alabama fan...obviously you cheered for either Alabama or the other team (Auburn).
Tonight it feels great! We have now earned the position to play for a National Championship!
Can't wait to see who our opponent is...all I know, is We (Alabama) will be ranked #1 tomorrow!

Tiger Woods...choice of words
So if you pay attention to any type of media, you have heard about Tiger Woods...arguably the greatest golfer ever. So think about this, are non-Christians expected to be held to the same standards Christians are? Initially I want to say yes, but when you think about it there is no reason for someone who doesn't know Christ and this teachings to follow them. Right? So with Tiger being atheist, is it really as big of a deal that he cheated numerous times on his wife? Why would we expect him to be held to the same standard? Just something to think about.
Following this same concept, I just feel the word choice "transgressions" he used in his statement to be interesting. Obviously it can be used out of biblical context, but that is what you normally associate the word transgression with.
As Christians, this is another reason we are held to a higher standard. We are the exception to this sinful world; we have hope and the ultimate Creator on our side. We have a reason to respect our wedding vows...because they are based on God's law and his holy matrimony. As for Tiger...I pray he realizes what he has done to those who adore him, including his wife and two kids. Although he is great at his golfing profession, he has become a stereotypical professional athlete. We realize he is human, and in need of the Christ that frees us from sin!

Makes me sad...unemployment
It makes me sad to know that some of my dear friends are caught up in this unemployment crisis. I wish so badly that I could do something to take their pain away. With the lack of finding a job comes lower self-esteem, financial hardship, and struggle to name a few. One of these friends is married with a child. Although she has a job, her husband has been unable to find a stable one. My heart just breaks for them and the struggle they have been going through. It also breaks for their daughter, who probably has no idea the situation her family is in.
So, here are my thoughts...be thankful if you have a job. Let's be honest, we all have tough days. But, those days have to be better than unemployment. Cherish what you have, even if it isn't your dream job. Next, think of helping others this Christmas. There are plenty of families out there who need help this season. So many people are going through similar stories.
Ideas of doing a little more this holiday season if you can:
-Giving to the homeless shelter (the one we work with gives basics to men & toys to kids)
-Adopt a family in need (these families are everywhere...if all else fails ask your church)
Buy presents for their kids, give them food for their Christmas dinner, or give them your time.
-Go to the advent conspiracy website...
http://www.adventconspiracy.org
-Volunteer at a non-profit organization (something like St. Jude or a homeless shelter)
-Pay for someone's food while in line at the grocery store.
**You get the idea...just do something to help others, especially if you've been blessed**

The Blindside...and adoption
Tonight was a "date night"...since we are visiting my in-laws, we got them to watch our daughter and went to the movies. (Kind of funny watching a movie about Memphis while being out of town) This movie definitely pulls at the heart-strings...it is an excellent movie. The summary if you haven't seen the previews on television: A homeless, black teenager is adopted by a very wealthy, white family in Memphis. A lot happens before and after...but the in the end of the movie, he signs a scholarship to Ole Miss (He goes on to become an All-American football player and gets drafted in the NFL...all a true story).
Driving back to the in-laws I couldn't help the small tears...I truly feel God called my husband and I to Memphis for a reason. (several reasons actually) It is crazy-but I moved to Memphis for a job, met a Godly-man at church whom I married, and we have an adorable daughter and great marriage. But that isn't all life is about...I also feel like God called my husband to teach in the inner city schools for a reason. The majority of those kids do not have a good family home life, if any home life at all.
We have been able to impact some of these young lives over the years (and obviously my husband more than myself). But is impacting truly enough...only God knows that. And I pray that we are at least planting seeds to further His kingdom. But, this brings up another issue that has kind of been mentioned on here before...adoption!
My husband and I both agree...we would love to adopt one day. We have talked about this a good bit over the years, but this movie helped put things in better perspective. On the way home, I asked my husband where he would like to adopt from...his answer, Memphis. Why look elsewhere when there are so many kids growing up here without a family. This is just our personal conviction, but one I can not wait to answer in the future. I don't know when God will call us to adopt. We have our goals in mind first...to hopefully have another biological child and then adopt after that. That is obviously our plan, but who knows what God has in store for our family.
My last plug...go watch the movie-The Blindside! It is a true story and is a glimpse of what our city is dealing with on a daily basis. God bless!

A Thankful Shout Out...
It's late...I have a busy, packed day of work tomorrow...and then a long drive to the in-laws. It's late, BUT...we here in America have so much to be thankful for. I don't think I have ever truly done this enough in the past, but please stop to think of all you are thankful for. We can easily start with the basics we take for granted...waking up and being able to breathe, family, friends, freedom, and so much more. First and foremost, we should be thankful for Jesus Christ and his blood. He gives the ultimate freedom and is the biggest reason we should be thankful. His action on the cross literally saved us from Hell. For that, I am thankful. I am thankful that I will never step inside the pits and depths of hell...God is freeing in that since. Accepting Him isn't simply to avoid Hell either, but to live a life full of grace, mercy, hope, love, joy, fellowship, freedom, and so on. Think of what you are thankful for, but remember the basics...the cross!

LUMP OF COAL OR DIAMONDS?
I spoke at a local homeless shelter last night. My message was inspired by a motivational text message I received from a co-worker recently. The basis of the message...How are we (humans) like diamonds? Here is a summary of what I said:
~Brief Overview of coal and diamonds. Both derive from carbon...the atoms in coal is arranged to look like horizontal lines or sheets of paper. After high heat, pressure, and time (millions of years) the atoms can change shape to look like pyramids...this turns into a diamond.
~Diamonds go through heat and pressure in order to form...as do people, we go through "heat and pressure" in the form of trials and sufferings. If we respond correctly to trials and sufferings, we become more mature. Romans 5:3-5..."Not only so, but we also rejoice in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; character, hope. And hope does not disappoint us, because God has poured out his love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit, whom he has given us."
~Time is the next commonality of diamonds and humans. It is thought to take millions of years for diamonds to form. Humans develop throughout their whole life...as I stated last night, it's not how you start, but how you finish! I think time relates to perseverance (you can only persevere over time) so you can look back to the previous verse out of Romans, but I also have a good verse out of James. James 1:4 says, "Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything."
~Beautiful...when you think of diamonds you think of beauty. (There is a a reason that most engagement rings contain diamonds!) As Christians, we are to be beautiful...we were created in the image of Christ. We were intended for beauty. Genesis 1:27 states, "So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them."
~In closing...are you on your way to becoming a beautiful diamond? or are you a lump of coal? Both begin the same way, from carbon atoms (As we are all created equally) The difference between diamonds and coal, is how they respond to heat, pressure, and time...

Cancer Debate...if you call it that
Here are my thoughts on this "new" way of preventative cancer treatment. (for those of you who aren't aware of the previous recommendations... mammograms were to be given annually starting at age 40 for women. This went along with the self breast exam and clinical exams given by doctors; atleast this is my understanding of it). This week, a "panel" began making radical statements about preventative cancer care...
They are suggesting that women, not considered at risk, do not have annual exams-but maybe every other year. They also recommend the age be moved to 50 to start these mammograms. WHY would anyone suggest to start screening later, when women die every day from this disease. After all, I attended a funeral/celebration of life last weekend because of this very disease. (The deceased woman was 50 and had been battling cancer for 11 years off and on...you do the math on that one.) Not to mention, while being in a doctors' office this week...one of the physician's former classmates had just passed away of cancer, at age 30. I personally feel these new recommendations are a slap in the face to anyone who has suffered, or anyone who has lost somebody due to cancer...particularly breast cancer.
Going back to the why...I truly believe this is about money & cost. Yes, preventative medicine costs money...but it also saves lives. Now for the conspiracy road...the government panel makes these suggestions-insurance companies begin to regulate this treatment, by not covering mammograms for younger women/or atleast not as often as before-since insurance companies make cut backs in this arena of healthcare, the government also does that...in the public option if it gets passed-therefore, the government controlled healthcare system rations who gets what preventative care...Oh, and I thought it was supposed to help with preventative medicine? Think about it...if the government influenced panel is making ridiculous suggestions, then imagine what they are going to suggest when they are in complete control? Do you really want them making these decisions for you?...because this is possibly just the beginning.

Character Assasination...
If you were a key witness in a trial, what do you think the opposing side would do...possibly go after your character? This was briefly touched on in church this past Sunday, so I wanted to dig a little deeper and just give you something to think about. Go back to my original question...what "dirt" could someone pull up on you that would destroy your witness?
Obviously this tactic is used in politics alot...we all know the political world gets dirty. Often times, flaws and associations of the past are made known to the public. But keep in mind, history is how we learn and predict about the future.
Can people change, absolutely! That is the beauty of it...Jesus and the Holy Spirit can transform lives. Simply think about what you currently do...could others hold that against you? Would you be embarrassed for your children or future children to know how you act? As always, if you don't think your life reflects that of Jesus...know you can change for the better with Christ. There is freedom that comes with a Christian lifestyle...Freedom from the possibility of character assassination due to sin.

A Witness...
What is a witness? Someone who speaks of what they have seen or heard...That is what our teaching pastor at church spoke about this morning, so I wanted to share a little bit. I started thinking about "our" witness to others...and as was stated in church, it is the responsibility of the church to be a witness for Jesus. Think about yourself & people you know who attend church, but look nothing like what the Bible teaches. Aren't we to be an example? I do believe what was stated at church, that the greatest threat is not secularism, immorality, politics, etc...it is the church. If we, as Christians, were living our life the way Jesus asked, then who wouldn't want Jesus? So think about that the next time you do something you know you shouldn't...we are to be examples. Keep in mind, you can still have fun as a Christian. But fun isn't sin...if you think sin is fun, you are being deceived. I encourage you, be a witness for Jesus...speak of what you see and hear...and how the Lord of this Universe has worked in your life. After all, it isn't about you...but Him!
Last I leave you with this (also from church this morning):
It shouldn't be WWJD, what would Jesus do? It isn't about just a moral and ethical teaching...but rather, what has Jesus done? Dying on the cross was and is the ultimate!

Jury Duty
A couple of weeks ago I received a certain piece of mail...JURY DUTY! Today was the day that I went for selection. It wasn't anything like I anticipated. Everyone I talked to told me to be myself...
opinionated! If you read my blog or know me, you know that isn't a problem.
I arrived at the convention center where I was told to report (In hind-sight, I should have thought about where the location of this event was being held...it says alot). As I approached the convention center, cars were everywhere trying to get into the parking garages. (Once again, that should have told me what was to come). So, I went in and...this summons to jury duty was being held in a HUGE room with 4,000 chairs! The main jury commissioner said there was 3,000 people there-this had been their second jury event of the day.
The kind of funny thing, one of the judges gave a jury duty pep-talk...some people rolled their eyes, but it was pretty good. He stated that the US is the only country that still does citizen juries and spoke of it being a right our country provides. I actually agreed with him...and if you have to pep people up for jury duty, he did a pretty good job.
Honestly, I was completely shocked at the people. I know I live in Memphis/Shelby County, and I know there is a lot of crime, but still...3,000 people is alot. So this is the way it worked (in case you ever get summoned for jury duty here)...they call out a bunch of weeks...you get to pick the week in which you want to serve...you line up against the wall...and turn in your information when you get to the front of the line. Unfortunately for me, I didn't get the week I wanted...they cut it off really quick. So, I went for the last week offered. I have a little time until then, but am curious to see what happens. Let's pray that whatever case I get placed on lasts 1-2 days. Working straight commission in sales, I can't really afford to be out of my territory much longer than that. Oh well...just wanted to let you know that jury duty in Memphis requires a lot of people!
opinionated! If you read my blog or know me, you know that isn't a problem.

Truly a blessing...
So I have been out of town part of the week. I literally just got back in town tonight from a national meeting. I can not help by brag about the company that I work for. They are such a rarity in today's pharmaceutical industry. The following is our mission statement:
To establish a new standard of respect and appreciation for the pharmaceutical industry.
This next part is our priorities:
To establish a new standard of respect and appreciation for the pharmaceutical industry.
This next part is our priorities:
Our company seeks to operate its business based on Biblical principles. By doing so, we will strive to place God first, our families second, our company third and ourselves last. As a company, we must profit to exist but we will not exist merely for profit. It is possible to position people first, maintain honesty and integrity and still profit.
The greatest part, is they truly back up everything they say. I have had the great opportunity to serve with this company for almost 7 years now, which is crazy since I am under 30. I love it...truly, I can not imagine any other place I would rather work. After winning an undeserved award, I spoke from the heart..."Where else can you pray, in Jesus' name, and it be okay? It means the world to me to work with a group of people with similar philosophy...that's what makes it so special. Honesty, integrity, doing the right thing, and making a difference in my territory. Just so you know, yes our industry can get a negative reputation...and rightfully so in a lot of circumstances, BUT we as salespeople work straight commission & drive our own cars. This is crazy to some people, but it is simply this...you work for what you get. If you don't earn it, you don't deserve it. It truly makes you appreciate what you accomplish, but gives the freedom to work hard, make good money, etc. I am completely convinced that there is no other company like the one I work for. I am truly blessed and just wanted to share!

Don't like where this is headed...
Healthcare Reform...it truly scares me. I just don't know or think that the majority of Americans know what actually just passed in the House. My brother-in-law and I were talking over the weekend...he used to work for the giant, Wal-Mart. He made a good point regarding the business aspect of it all: In this reform bill it is mandatory that all employers offer health insurance or risk a huge tax...so Wal-Mart for instance, would have to offer it to all of its employers (even part time to my understanding). So what does this mean...HIGHER cost of consumer goods. If Wal-Mart costs go up due to insurance, then that costs the price of consumer goods to go up, which makes us Americans pay more, which means there isn't as much money in our pockets to help this wonderful economy we have on our hands. That is just one aspect of this whole mess.
If our economy is in shambles...WHY are they proposing something that will destroy our economy? Do you think it is simply a power grab? I am convinced these representatives are not listening to their constituents...with all of the town hall meetings, tea party rallies (both local and in DC), phone calls to congressmen, emails to congressmen, etc...if that many people are against this thing, shouldn't they look at an alternative? Yes I realize that some people are for it, but I truly think most like the sound of "insurance for everyone"...and don't realize at what cost that phrase will come at. Nothing in life is free...if this thing passes through the Senate...just look for your taxes sky-rocketing, your consumer goods cost going up, a possible drop of insurance by your employer which will force you to the government option, which will then decide if and when you could get surgery if needed, I assume the unemployment rate would go up (because what incentive will people have to work if they can get the following free (or by taxepayer money): food via food stamps, income via social security or disability or welfare or unemployment, insurance via government, etc...why work? Maybe once or society is just sitting on its' butt will we realize how dumb it was to vote Obama in...maybe at that point Grossy Pelosi will be back in California where she belongs!

That is the phone # to Capitol Hill in Washington D.C. Surprisingly, it was very easy when I called...
They ask you for your zip code, then connect you to your representative. So, if you want to do something about this crazy takeover with our government but aren't quite sure how or what to do, then just call. Literally, they get your information and take your message. Simple as that...
After finding out the number, I finally decided to give a call to Cohen, our Memphis representative. As I've stated before, I think this healthcare agenda of the Obama administration is whack. There are other alternatives out there to reform healthcare for the uninsured (since that is their reason for overhauling the whole entire healthcare system). That is what I simply stated in my message...
"Please vote NO on this bill...I'm not saying that something doesn't need to be done, but this isn't the answer. We don't need government involved, just let the private insurance companies compete." That was a summary of my message.
So, I encourage you...take action if you don't like what is going on. If Pelosi gets her way, this bill will be passed in the House this weekend.
One more thing, you can go to your representatives website too...I also sent an email today and was able to go into a little more detail. Just know you have options to speak up...it's better than sitting back and doing nothing!

Encouraging to me...but don't judge me on this!
So I was reluctant to write this, but obviously found the guts to do so anyway. For those of you who don't know, I live in Memphis. As much as I would like to deny it, Memphis is a racially motivated city. Not in every aspect of course, but in many. This seems to always come up in our local government. Luckily this past month we elected a new mayor...thank goodness. Our old mayor kept the racial divide forefront, which is truly sad to me. He truly saw white people as his enemy, instead of realizing we could work together. If people called him out, or held him accountable...it was out of racism.
You can see where this is going...this is similar to what we see now in our federal politics. And honestly, I am tired of it. Are there ignorant people out there who think we aren't created equal because of our skin color...of course. For those people, I am sorry you have never had the privilege of learning we are all people and people of all colors have the potential to be good. I have played ball over my lifetime with people of all backgrounds. You can't stereotype one race.
Although I know my previous statement, I have done so lately when it comes to politics. My excuse, I see how the dominant race of Memphis operates. They tend to heavily vote down racial lines. While I think loyalty is great, I also think knowledge and logic are greater. Therefore, I have been so encouraged through my favorite talk radio station lately. As I have mentioned before, they speak from a Christian world view. Literally every day this week I have been blessed and encouraged by black callers proving me wrong...I love it. It has been proof that people of all backgrounds are being educated on what is going on in our government. I truly hope this comes across the right way! This is a great thing...anyone who can see past skin color and think about the policies is doing good. This is not just subject to white or black...this is everyone. Unfortunately I think the race card is played far too often, but hopefully people are realizing that it isn't about race for the majority of Americans critical of the current administration. After all, if it was about race...I wouldn't have voted for an African-American in our local election. And yes, even in Memphis there are choices.

Guilty Halloween
I felt a little guilty tonight enjoying Halloween...my husband and I took our daughter around trick-or-treating and really enjoyed our time together. Although things were wonderful with us, I couldn't quit thinking about some bad news we got earlier this morning. My husband teaches and coaches, and a couple of his wrestlers (brothers) lost their mom this morning to cancer. I just feel so bad for these two boys. Their dad is a worthless piece of poop that left them a couple of years ago. Needless to say, I am not sure what will happen to these two boys now that their mom has passed away. I'm sure the funeral will be sometime this week...It's crazy that cancer finally got her this time. She had beaten it twice before. Anyway, I just felt like sharing...mainly as a prayer request to pray for this family. I know I lost my father earlier this year, but it wasn't during my teenage years. I just can't imagine what they are going through. I'm sure so many uncertainties. Thanks for your prayers for them in advance!

Disgust with a few positives...
So I am speaking of D.C. -I will attempt to make my points as brief as possible, but just know I have more than 1 point to make:
Disgust #1-->I think it is disgusting that the Hate Crime Bill was passed yesterday. I know it sounds bad, but do you know what it is about? First, let me begin by saying that Congress if full of a bunch of chickens. Instead of voting on this bill by itself, they attached it to the Defense Authorization Bill that funds our military. Not many democrats or republicans are willing to vote against the military...therefore this terrible Hate Crime Bill got passed too. Now about the bill itself...it is named after Matthew Shepard. In 1998 this 21 year old was murdered. The bill was named after him because his murder was portrayed as a hate crime since he was homosexual. Years later, the killers admitted they went after him, but after drugs and money. It had nothing to do with his homosexual lifestyle. Check out the story HERE. Aren't all crimes already punished? This particular bill is an attempt to silence those who speak out against this lifestyle. Pastors and preachers are particularly at risk...if they speak out against this lifestyle, they could be charged with a hate crime. Anyone who knows Christianity realizes it is about love, not hate.
Positive #1--> I heard this comment on the radio today and thought it was classic. Once again, the political "conservative" is constantly being attacked these days. Before I say more, I do not listen to Rush Limbaugh...but, I do think he was wrongly denied ownership of the NFL team in St. Louis. Please listen to Rep. Steve King call out the NFL commissioner on his hypocrisy. In summary, he calls him out because people like J-Lo and Fergie have ownership of the Miami Dolphins, but yet use racial remarks in their music and atleast Fergie has a past with drugs. Check it out HERE.
Positive #2-->On Healthcare Reform...we keep hearing the Democrats say that Republicans haven't come up with any ideas. Instead of the new 1,990 page bill that has been updated (HERE)I got it off my Congressman's website today...Republicans are about to give their shot at reform. Everyone agrees there needs to be reform, just not in the way that most Democrats are trying to shove it through...people need healthcare, but why change the good parts? Most of healthcare is good, but yes some things need fixed. Here are the 5 aspects that Republicans are suggesting:
1. Fix tax code...employers get healthcare tax free, but individuals do not. This suggest that both employers and individuals would be able to get healthcare tax free.
2. Buy across state lines...a lot of states only have 1 or 2 main insurance companies. If you can compete across state lines, then there will actually be competition. (kind of like car insurance commercials on tv)
3. Allow groups to get volume discount...like employers.
4. Broken lawsuit system...doctors pay a fortune in malpractice insurance. Help tame this beast, as well as keep a grip on the unnecessary lawsuits out there.
5. Compel insurance companies to compete with one another.
Atleast these 5 things address the issue...and it is where common people like you and me can understand it. No gimmicks, no hidden agendas...simply promoting insurance companies to compete for business, which we decrease costs. Not government control.

A Great Read..."Saving Freedom"
Going along with my political theme lately...I wanted to suggest a good book I have been reading.
"Saving Freedom" is a book written by Senator Jim DeMint of South Carolina. I picked it up in a Christian book store, just because it caught my attention.
I have recommended it to a few of my friends...mostly because it gives a well needed history lesson on America and the beginnings of our government. This man is critical of government today; this includes both democrats and republicans. It goes back to the Constitution and what was intended when it was written. When asked if it is biased...doesn't everything have a little bias in it? Yes, he is a Christian...so yes, he has a conservative view. But is that truly a bad thing?
Christianity is about Jesus Christ, not hate like it has been portrayed today. Anyone who truly knows Christ, or atleast attempts to follow His teachings, realize what a decline our society is in today. Yes it can be disheartening, but it can also be inspiring. I don't think Christians are supposed to just sit back and be silent...technically we are supposed to spread the Good News of Jesus. That doesn't require silence!
Anyway, pick this book up...it is truly worth it! I think every American needs to remember the reason our country was founded, the intentions of our founding fathers, the purpose of the constitution. It was freedom from government control...seriously!

leading by example...debt?
I had a long drive yesterday, which really got me thinking...yes our nation is in a bad economic situation. I don't think anyone can deny that; yes there are things that the corporate world have done to contribute, BUT what I feel is too often left out...personal responsibility. We all know people who are in debt up to their eyeballs. (That was one of my favorite commercials a few years back-the man riding on the lawn mower, showing his house-saying he's a member of the country club-etc, then asking "How do I do it...I'm in debt up to my eyeballs!") There are so many aspects of this crisis, but we, as individual Americans have to do OUR part. That is make wise financial decisions...not live outside or above our means. Yes it is easy to do, but there has to be some self-control in there somewhere. Theoretically, we can't spend money we don't have. That is the biggest lesson to be learned during this time...don't spend more than you make, and save money in case of an emergency...like losing your job. I have friends in these situations; we never know what the future holds, so we just have to plan ahead and prepare.
That being said...shouldn't our government lead by example? Instead, they are spending money they definitely don't have and are in debt up to their eyeballs! I am not just blaming it on the current administration either, but they are maximizing the national debt. How can you ask wall street and main street to get their act together when our leaders are not leading by example? We all pay taxes, or those of us who are here legally...and that is what the government's budget should consist of. Not borrowing money that doesn't exist...For those of you who don't think this healthcare thing will cost more money...think logically. If we are already in debt, where do you think the money is going to come from? DEBT...so just keep in mind...Individual Americans are in debt and bankrupt...and so is our government. This wasn't the intentions of the American Dream...that dream is the potential for prosperity and freedom. That doesn't mean that everyone will obtain it or get it...we may have been CREATED equal by God, but that doesn't mean we ARE equal. We were all given different abilities and talents and are to be content with what we have (which doesn't mean we can't work hard to try to make more).
Sorry for ranting...but there is a reason America is in the situation. Neither individuals or our government are living within means...shouldn't the government lead by example?

I can't resist...Oprah & Obama
I kind of hate when I get on my political kicks, but then again I obviously kind of enjoy it. We'll call it bitter-sweet. My goal is to get the truth out, so that the public isn't easily persuaded by the mainstream media. Let's face it, not everyone wants the truth. That's what I have realized; so many Americans react on emotion and fear, as opposed to logic and reasoning. This persuasion is everywhere...including on Oprah.
I understand that Obama and Oprah go way back. They both lived in Chicago, attended the crazy-extreme "church" of Rev. Wright, have money and power, and are obvious buddies. So catching the last minutes of Oprah today, I realized that she is subtly and slyly pushing his socialist agenda.
Her episode was on "showing how people live around the world"and what makes them the happiest people...I will try to summarize what I witnessed: the Denmark women interviewed made comments of equality, stated that "the government will take care of it", that they have "free healthcare and free education", everyone makes about the same income, etc. (Oh yeah, and they have a HUGE income tax...up to 50% from what they said...anyone who works hard knows that sounds terrible) They tried to romanticize the government...the positive thing, family was important (they ate meals together and got a long maternity leave compared to US women). The negatives, most of the women interviewed had children out of wedlock and didn't believe marriage was important...nor did they believe religion was important. Sounds great huh? (sarcasm)
Then Oprah interviewed someone from India...once again it went back to what the government does for them. They don't pay for healthcare, water, or electricity. There is no homeless because the "government takes care of them". Then the female, who claimed to be a general practice doctor, made this statement..."Doctors should show compassion, it shouldn't be a business".
Do you catch my drift...everyone knows Oprah has a huge following. She has been seen around Obama numerous times, including the trip to Denmark to try to bring the Olympics home to the U.S....which let me remind you failed.
There is a reason we don't currently have government run healthcare...
IT'S CALLED FREEDOM!
People have fought and died for FREEDOM in this country...they are still fighting and dying for it! Why did America start to begin with...to get away from government in England. That was the whole point, they wanted FREEDOM. Socialism is the opposite of FREEDOM...socialism relies on a few people (government) making decisions for the rest of us. That isn't what our country was based on...that would be the Constitution! Our founding fathers knew that men had a sin nature. That they were greedy of money and power...and we see that thriving today.
So here is my caution...be careful what you watch and listen to. The mainstream media is not reporting all of the facts. Fox News gets called biased, one-sided...but what if...they are actually reporting the truth. (and that seems to be the reason their ratings have sky rocketed). Watching and listening to something other than mainstream media atleast gives a different perspective. I rarely watch Fox News, but I do listen to a decent amount of American Family Radio. I would encourage you to tune in...whether on the internet or radio. Let's quit giving people like Oprah the power of persuasion.
If you are interested in a Christian-Biblical perspective...based on facts and logic then go to this website to find a station near you!

My best analogy to Obama's Nobel Peace Prize
I couldn't decide what topic to blog on today. There are so many directions my mind is pulling me, but I thought I should go ahead and address this particular issue...Obama and his win of the Nobel Peace Prize. Yes I am critical of this President. No question, BUT do you honestly think he has accomplished enough in this short time period to win this previously prestigious award? Seriously?
Here is my best analogy-For those of you who don't know, I played women's college basketball. Sports provides so many life lessons...I learned so much about not only basketball at a division 1 level, but about myself, and how life works. We all know, life doesn't always seem fair. That was how I felt throughout most of my basketball experience. I worked my tail off and didn't always get the playing time I thought I deserved. (I will admit if someone is out playing me or better than me.) I didn't have all of the height or ability in the world, but I definitely had heart and dedication.
That brings me to the analogy...By my junior year of college, there were 3 of us point guards competing for the same position. There was a starting point guard, I was generally first off of the bench, then a freshmen guard with high hopes. This particular December game our coach approached us right before our pregame meeting...He took the starter and moved her to third point guard this game; my position of back up didn't change and he gave the freshmen point guard her chance to shine. The only problem with this approach, at the time the freshmen point guard had not "earned" that right to start. She had not out-played us, therefore it was confusing. What had she done to get that starting recognition...nothing that we hadn't done. Yes she was a good player and good competitor, but that isn't enough at the college level. Needless to say, at this particular point in our playing career...the lines of earning playing time were unclear. After an okay game by the freshmen, things went back to the way they were prior to the game. The starter continued starting, I was backup, and the freshmen was third.
Here's my point...by awarding Obama the Nobel Peace Prize, he has been reaffirmed for no reason. He hasn't accomplished anything other than winning the election. Let's be honest, he luckily hasn't passed his healthcare agenda, he didn't bring the Olympics home, the energy initiative is at a halt for now, and the list goes on. If we are going on legit facts, he didn't deserve the award...especially the $1.2 million that comes along with it. So there you have it...if you award people for nothing, it confuses them. It gives them false affirmation. This is what has happened to Obama by giving him the award. He doesn't deserve it based on merit, which was exactly the same situation with my freshmen basketball friend. Hope the analogy puts this issue into perspective.

10 Dumb Things Smart Christians Believe
So I read this book last month and have been meaning to blog on it..."10 Dumb Things Smart Christians Believe" by Larry Osborne. It speaks of Christian believers who get caught up in social and cultural bias, therefore they start believing things and interpreting things the wrong way. These "spiritual urban legends" can cause disillusionment, heartache, and can be dangerous. I will try to summarize the best I can, but want to suggest it as a good read:
Dumb Idea #1--Faith can fix anything...He said this kind of hopeful thinking is more about faith in faith than faith in God. Obviously God can do anything He wants; that doesn't have to be what we want.
Dumb Idea #2--Forgiving means forgetting...He says forgiving is not an option. It's a sacred duty and is central to the Christian message. Forgiving isn't pretending that nothing ever happened. Forgiving didn't mean removing all the consequences. (Basically, although God wipes are slate clean if we ask forgiveness, we still have consequences to those sins)
Dumb Idea #3--A Godly home guarantees Godly kids...as much as we would like to believe this, we know it isn't true. We all know someone that came from a great family, yet lives a lifestyle of sin. The bottom line, it is a parents' job to raise their kids in a Christian environment; but the kid is responsible for their own actions as they get older. They make their own decisions.
Dumb Idea #4--God has a blueprint for my life...it basically says that a blueprint gives specific instructions that spell out every single detail. God gives more of a game plan. He gives general guidelines and principles, with lots of freedom and flexibility for adjustments as the game unfolds. (anyone who has played sports should understand this concept)
Dumb Idea #5--Christians shouldn't judge...quoted directly from the book, "Refusing to make judgments or call sin, sin, is not what Jesus asks us to do. Refusing to do so leads to costly spiritual consequences, not only in the lives of those of us who refuse to judge, but also in the lives of those who never have their sins pointed out. It does mean we need to judge with extreme caution and clarity.
Dumb Idea #6--Everything happens for a reason...sometimes the trials and hardships we face are the results of sinful choices. That's not God's doing. That's our doing. Basically he says that we (our decisions, own selfishness, etc) cause a lot of our troubles, not God.
Dumb Idea #7--Let your conscience be your guide...our conscience doesn't tell us if we're violating God's standards. It tells us when we're violating our standards. When rightly understood and functioning properly, our conscience is a valuable early warning device.
Dumb Idea #8--God brings good luck...the thing we have to remember is that the benefits of righteousness aren't primarily found in earthly rewards. They're found in the next life. The great benefit is forgiveness. The great reward is heaven.
Dumb Idea #9--A valley means a wrong turn...If we run from every messy situation on the assumption that God can't be in it, we'll never experience the miraculous power of his deliverance.
Dumb Idea #10--Dead people go to a better place...This is the saddest to me, but so true. The book says that Jesus and the Bible are quite clear-the wicked don't go to a better place. There's a real hell. It's not the devil's playground. It's not a perpetual wild party. It's Satan's worst nightmare. It also says that the cross and salvation are central to the gospel. Losing the concept of hell devalues the cross.

FIREPROOF FRIDAY...
How many relationships/marriages are "on the rocks"? Some may not be to that point yet, but the marriage is definitely not worthy of respect or admiration? It happens too frequently...and we all know people that have gone through the trenches of marriage or have experienced it personally. Unfortunately I have had several friends go down the road of difficulty...luckily most of them have survived, but that isn't the case for everyone I know. (I myself am a product of divorced parents... two great individual parents who were unable to have a successful marriage)
Today I took a 1/2 off from work...we had to get shots for my daughter, and then ended up at home for the afternoon. My husband's idea, "Let's watch Fireproof!"
If you haven't seen this movie, PLEASE watch it...it truly is an incredible movie. Yes it is a Christian based movie, but the main aspect of it is dealing with marriage. Not to be a spoiler, but it shows how easy it is for a marriage to travel down a horrible path, how sin can interfere and deceive people, how pride can get in the way, etc...
Even if your marriage is thriving...watch it! If your marriage is in a state of resentfulness...watch it! If you are engaged to be married...watch it to see what marriage is supposed to look like! That's my challenge for the next week...watch Fireproof and work on your marriage!

Queering Elementary Education...
Thought that title might get your attention...so what would you think if someone was trying to force schools (schools=administration, teachers, students, parents, and all those involved)to accept homosexuality? If someone was trying to tell YOUR children that the sin of homosexuality was okay? That it is "okay to be gay". Now as always, let me preface the following with this...by no means am I saying to make fun of or harm those who practice the homosexual lifestyle, BUT it is okay to disagree with homosexuality and not physically harm or make fun of those people.
My reason for the post, did you know that YOUR President has appointed (wasn't elected to, but appointed by Obama) a homosexual to the U.S. Department of Education? Let me also say, I definitely think homosexuals are people and are qualified to do good work...BUT, not to influence our children about a sexual perversion that is clearly called "sin" by the Bible and God. Our nation's U.S. Department of Education "Safe Schools" Czar is Kevin Jennings. He founded the "Gay, Lesbian and Straight, Education Network (GLSEN)...wrote the foreword on a book titled, "Queering Elementary Education"...has authored several books pushing the homosexual agenda...and is now in authority to influence our children. PLEASE google this guy. There is a multitude of information out there on Kevin Jennings...and it truly is scary.
Years ago he was speaking at a conference telling the story of a young, 15 year old teenager, who had a homosexual relationship with a grown man in a bathroom...instead of reporting the event (because of inappropriate age, since it was an adult and 15 year old), Jennings said he offered him advice. Regardless of the homosexual conduct surrounding this kid, any adult should report a relationship in which an adult takes advantage of a underage kid...obviously Jennings put the homosexual agenda ahead of the well being of this child, who was clearly being taken advantage of by an adult.
Once again...this is another case of the problems within Obama's administration. That is what the fuss is about...the Czars that are appointed, especially when they are soooo extreme in their thinking. Add Kevin Jennings to the list of radical associations for Obama....the list is on going of extreme individuals and should be a warning of more to come. We already have Rev. Jeremiah Wright, ACORN, the Czar that was just ousted over communist remarks-Van Jones, this guy-Kevin Jennings, and I know there are more I am not mentioning.
My goal here is to inform you...this isn't about Democrat or Republican, this is about our future.

Sunday Song...
"Going Through The Motions" by Matthew West
This song is so meaningful...How many people do we know that lives life by JUST going through the motions? After my Dad passed away earlier this year, it hit close to home...life truly is short. So, if you are reading this you are obviously alive. Start living life...start living life for Christ...after all, that is the most important aspect of our life. We all have other things going on too (being a spouse, a worker/employee, a son/daughter, a parent ourselves, etc). I am definitely not saying neglect our other duties, but what I am saying is that even in those aspects of life, God expects us to glorify Him. So, stop going through the motions of life, or getting caught up in them. Hope you enjoy the lyrics...and if you want to hear it you can find it on youtube!
LYRICS:
This might hurt
It’s not safe
But I know that I’ve gotta make a change
I don’t care
If I break
At least I’ll be feeling something
‘Cause just ok
Is not enough
Help me fight through the nothingness of life
I don’t wanna go through the motions
I don’t wanna go one more day
Without Your all consuming passion inside of me
I don’t wanna spend my whole life asking
What if I had given everything?
Instead of going through the motions
No regrets
Not this time
I’m gonna let my heart defeat my mind
Let Your love
Make me whole
I think I’m finally feeling something
Take me all the way
Take me all the way
Take me all the way

Check yourself...your faith?
As I have mentioned before, I am going through a Bible study with the small group my husband and I are in. For the last several weeks, we have been going through a book called "Be Mature: growing up in Christ" by Warren W. Wiersbe. I wanted to share a little bit of what this week is about...and honestly, reflect upon your personal life. Be honest with yourself and see which category you are apart of. After all, it is extremely important!
The topic...False Faith. Now don't let this scare you, it is meant to be a gut check...which I know we don't like most of the time. There are three types of faith given here:
(I will be directly quoting the following)
DEAD FAITH
-People with dead faith substitute words for deeds. They know the correct vocabulary for prayer and testimony, and can even quote the right verses from the Bible, but their walk does not measure up to their talk. They think their words are as good as works, and they are wrong.
-Any declaration that does not result in a changed life and good works is a false declaration. That kind of faith is dead faith.
-True saving faith can never be by itself: It always brings life, and life produces good works.
-Faith in Christ brings life (John 3:16), and where there is life there must be growth and fruit.
-Dead faith is counterfeit faith and lulls the person into a false confidence of eternal life.
-It only touches a persons' intellect.
DEMONIC FAITH
-It comes as a shock to people that demons have faith! What do they believe? For one thing, they believe in the existence of God: they are neither atheists nor agnostic.
-(James 2:19) "You believe that there is one God. Good! Even the demons believe that-and shudder."
-It not only touches a person's intellect, but also their emotions.
-True saving faith involves something more, something that can be seen and recognized: a changed life.
DYNAMIC FAITH
-Dynamic faith is faith that is real, faith that has power, faith that results in a changed life.
-To begin with, dynamic saving faith is based on the Word of God.
-We are not saved by faith in faith; we are saved by faith in Christ as revealed in His Word.
-The mind understands the truth; the heart desires the truth; and the will acts upon the truth.
-Again, faith is not believing in spite of evidence; faith is obeying in spite of consequence.
-The justified person has a changed life and obeys God's will. His faith is demonstrated by his works.
-Dynamic faith obeys God and proves itself in daily life and works.
-(Keep this in mind) Satan is the great deceiver; one of his devices is imitation.
Questions to ask yourself that are given in the book:
1.Was there a time when I honestly realized I was a sinner and admitted this to myself and to God?
2.Was there a time when my heart stirred me to flee from the wrath to come? Have I ever seriously been alarmed over my sins?
3.Do I truly understand the gospel, that Christ died for my sins and arose again? Do I understand and confess that I cannot save myself?
4.Did I sincerely repent of my sins and turn from them? Or do I secretly love sin and want to enjoy it?
5.Have I trusted Christ and Christ alone for my salvation? Do I enjoy a living relationship with Him through the Word and in the Spirit?
6.Has there been a change in my life? Do I maintain good works, or are my works occasional and weak? Do I seek to grow in the things of the Lord? Can others tell that I have been with Jesus?
7.Do I have a desire to share Christ with others? Or am I ashamed of Him?
8.Do I enjoy the fellowship of God's people? Is worship a delight to me?
9.Am I ready for the Lord's return? Or will I be ashamed when He comes for me?

Sunday Song...
I love worship music...don't mistake that for me being able to sing it well. However, I thought I could highlight a song on Sundays (at least when I don't have anything else to rant and rave about). I became infatuated with this song months ago, but after hearing it again yesterday I had to chose it for the first installment of "Sunday Song"...
PERFECT PEOPLE...performed by Natalie Grant
Never let 'em see you when you're breaking
Never let 'em see you when you fall
That's how we live and that's how we try
Tell the world you've got it all together
Never let them see what's underneath
Cover it up with a crooked smile
But it only lasts for a little while
[CHORUS:]
There's no such thing as perfect people
There's no such thing as a perfect life
So come as you are, broken and scared
Lift up your heart and be amazed
And be changed by a perfect God
Suddenly it's like a weight is lifted
When you hear the words that you are loved
He knows where you are and where you've been
And you never have to go there again
[CHORUS]
Who lived and died to give new life
To heal our imperfections
So look up and see out let grace be enough
[CHORUS]
By a perfect God [5x]
Be changed by a perfect God
Be changed
That's how we live and that's how we try
Tell the world you've got it all together
Never let them see what's underneath
Cover it up with a crooked smile
But it only lasts for a little while
[CHORUS:]
There's no such thing as perfect people
There's no such thing as a perfect life
So come as you are, broken and scared
Lift up your heart and be amazed
And be changed by a perfect God
Suddenly it's like a weight is lifted
When you hear the words that you are loved
He knows where you are and where you've been
And you never have to go there again
[CHORUS]
Who lived and died to give new life
To heal our imperfections
So look up and see out let grace be enough
[CHORUS]
By a perfect God [5x]
Be changed by a perfect God
Be changed
I played this song a few months ago for the men at the homeless shelter we serve at. Aren't the lyrics so true? Most of us appear to have it all together, but deep down we have scars from the past, brokenness, hidden sin, etc...Regardless of what is going on or how ugly you think your life is, just know that God is in the business of transforming lives.

Conviction & Children...
For some reason the abortion issue has been at the forefront of my mind...maybe it resurfaced today as I was working downtown Memphis and drove past abortion protesters. I have seen them on the corner several times, but never gave it more thought than honking the horn in support. Today I drove back around the block and asked what was probably a dumb question, "Is there an abortion clinic in this building?" My assumptions proved correctly...Planned Parenthood is located inside. I know this organization may do several different things, but abortions are part of their services. It truly breaks my heart to know that women who feel they have no where to turn, aren't sure how they can handle this growing child, who never wanted pregnancy to begin with, can go here to "fix" their problem/unwanted pregnancy.
Therefore, I truly became convicted of the following...how can we, as Christians (including myself), speak out against abortion and not be willing to adopt those children whose mom/parents choose to give them life, yet give them up? Maybe this issue hits home somewhat for me....one of my really good friends was adopted and given a life that he probably would not have been given otherwise. That's encouraging...to know that someone was willing to give him a "new" chance and love him unconditionally.
So, that's my question....do we, as Christians, feel strongly enough about this issue to act? This is something that my husband and I have definitely talked about. We have been fortunate to have a biological child, which I realize not everyone is given that opportunity. But what I have realized, it doesn't have to be biological to be a child that you love. I am unsure of the time frame for us, but adoption is something we hope to do one day...I would be interested to hear your thoughts.

On the surface...
So what I am starting to realize is that most people, including myself at times, just look at issues on the surface. This translates to never diving "deeper" into what is beneath the surface. This could speak for almost any issue, but here is what comes to my mind.
First I feel like I have to preface what is to come by saying this...I apologize if I come across judgmental; that is never my intentions. Trust me I have heard it before...however, I do feel like I can back up most of my statements with logic or biblical truth. Most of the time my statements are reflections of my Christian beliefs. I am an ambassador and advocate for Christ first and foremost. I do believe that ALL of the Bible is truth, not just the parts I like or choose to accept as truth. The greatest part about Christ...along with His judgment comes mercy. Please know that Christ offers both, but not one without the other!
Now to the rest of the post-On the Surface...I think too many people just take things for what it appears to be on the outside without looking at what it includes. Today I heard a caller on the radio continue to bring up Obama's skin color as the main issue of the debates...I am not naive enough to think that racism is dead (I live in Memphis, it is definitely thriving in its own way), BUT can people really not think and see past the color of this man's skin? I love people (including all skin colors and ethnic groups...heck, just in my immediate neighborhood we have neighbors of Indian decent, Chinese decent, White, and African-American...would I live here if that were the biggest issue?) Why can't people realize that most Americans can look past the surface, skin color in this case. I highly disagree with Obama on this views, associations, policies, and agendas...that has nothing to do with his skin color.
This holds true for politics too, not just people. At what point do we, as Americans, start actually looking at what is below the surface of these bills being passed? I had a recent conversation with a friend who was in favor of "healthcare for everyone". I agree, that sounds great on the surface, but it is what makes up the reform that is scary. In an ideal world, everyone would be healthy, have great healthcare, etc...but that is not reality. What may sound good on the surface, will be detrimental to the future of this country. I am not saying reform doesn't need to take place, but not in this way. Instead of overhauling the entire system, work on the particular parts that need immediate attention (pre-existing conditions, etc). Educate yourself...look below the surface! Although I may have a different opinion than some, I can atleast respect someone for voting, if they truly know what they are voting on and why...I can agree to disagree, but just be prepared to know why you feel a certain way...know the facts, not just what's on the surface!

Woman's Right...not so much
This post comes as a response to a conversation I had with a friend over the weekend...almost any issue has some sort of political association now-and this topic is a hot political issue. As you will probably be able to tell, my friend and I didn't see eye-to-eye on this issue....but here is my argument:
Somehow abortion came up during our conversation...one side of the argument is that it is a woman's right to choose (regarding the decision to keep the baby growing inside of her, to give it up for adoption, OR to kill the baby by aborting it).
Here is why I disagree with my friend: Jeremiah 1:5-->Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart...
If we believe that scripture is inspired by God (look up 2 Timothy 3:16) then we realize that God knows us in the womb. Anyone who has had a baby should realize the miracle that a baby truly is. On the flip side, anyone who has tried to have a baby & hasn't been fortunate to get pregnant or give birth realizes how much of a miracle it truly is. There is no doubt that a lot has to happen in order for a child to enter the world.
Now, back to the woman's choice debate...here is my reason for disagreeing even more: To my knowledge, married women rarely have abortions. I realize there may be exceptions to this, although I am not sure why. My reason for that married women statement...sex within marriage is a good thing. God intended it to be good, within a committed marriage. My point, most abortions that take place are done so by women who are not married...which according to the Bible means they shouldn't be having sex anyway. I know this is not the norm anymore, but the Bible doesn't go out of date. If you are willing to "do the deed" of sleeping with someone, you should be willing to have their baby. If you aren't willing to have their baby, you have no business partaking in intercourse anyway.
Now I realize there will always be the situation that arises...what if the woman is raped? I am unaware of the data that shows the percentage of women this actually happens to, but I understand it is possible (A friend of mine from college had this unfortunate situation happen to her in highschool...yes she is a strong, mature Christian...and yes she has had a lot of heart ache over the years...but God has used her testimony to reach out to young girls over the years).
In summary...children are truly a gift from God! Sex is meant to be within the relationship of marriage, which means children should be a blessing as a result of this responsible act. If babies are developed in the womb as a result of intercourse outside of marriage...I don't believe abortion is the answer either. What gives a person the right to choose life or death? Obviously they weren't too concerned during the process of the baby being made.

Operating out of FEAR...
I made a quick pit stop into a local Christian book store today...as I was checking out, I was offered to buy a "chapter" out of a new book written by Max Lucado. The title, "Imagine Your Life Without Fear". The chapter book is small, about 46 pages...but in those short pages were some GREAT quotes and comments, which can be found in his new book, "Fearless". I urge you, if you worry a lot, doubt a lot, are pessimistic, are afraid of the things of this world, etc...then this truly is a great purchase to help you step out on faith and trust God. The following are some of the things that stuck out to me:
~Christ followers contract malaria, bury children, and battle addictions, and, as a result, face fears. It's not the absence of storms that sets us apart. It's whom we discover in the storm: an unstirred Christ.
~Fear corrodes our confidence in God's goodness. We begin to wonder if love lives in heaven. If God can sleep in our storms, if his eyes stay shut when our eyes grow wide, if he permits storms after we get on his boat, does he care? Fear unleashes a swarm of doubts, anger-stirring doubts. And it turns us into control freaks.
~Fear, at its center, is a perceived loss of control.
~When fear shapes our lives, safety becomes our god.
~Fear itself is not a sin. But it can lead to sin.
~Fear may fill our world, but it doesn't have to fill our hearts.
~When desperation typhoons into your world, God's offer of a free flight home demands a second look.
Verses dealing with this: (taken from the book)
Matthew 10:31...So don't be afraid. You are worth much more than the sparrows.
Matthew 6:25...I tell you not to worry about everyday life-whether you have enough.
Matthew 14:27...Take courage. I am here!
Matthew 10:28...Do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul.
John 14:1,3...Don't let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God, and trust also in me...I will come and get you, so that you will always be with me where I am.
Matthew 24:6...You will hear of wars and rumors of wars, but see to it that you are not alarmed.
Let's face it, there are enough of these people in the world...as Christians and believers, we have something to look forward to. We should take refuge in knowing this life is temporary. We are to glorify God in the good and bad times. After all, it is the bad times that seem to teach us the most about ourselves, and God.

Sept 11-How we forget...
I know we always will remember September 11...and although it is always said, I really do remember where I was that day. (Taking an exam in college, only to walk through our University Center to see the chaos on television). I still have the newspapers from that day and the following days. What was everyone's reaction..."We are at war." "Let's get who ever is responsible!" and so forth. So now, 8 years later...why have people forgotten how TERRIBLE it truly was. Why do people act like we, America, went to attack the middle east? REMEMBER that AMERICA was attacked that day, New York was attacked that day, innocent people were attacked that day...it was not the other way around. Honestly, were we supposed to just sit back and let it happen. NO!
No one wants war...but it is necessary at times. Do I wish it were over? We were victorious? We caught Bin Laden? Of course, but that isn't reality...so why do we forget? Regardless if you liked the previous administration, they did keep us safe after 9-11. It wasn't the first time America was the target of terrorist attacks...and it won't be the last. That's the scary part, but yet a lot of Americans are mad at the previous government for war. IT WASN'T INITIATED BY US! Please don't forget that!
I didn't watch much television today, until tonight...the History channel had some of the best coverage from 9-11. I was on the verge of tears watching it all over again...seeing faces that would later lose their life, seeing people jumping from burning buildings, seeing loved ones speaking of their relatives, etc...I just don't understand how we are so quick to forget what it was like that day. It has only been 8 years. My heart goes out to those people who were directly involved...
Last, no one wants war. I saw a sign that said, "Pray for peace on Earth." Although we should pray over everything, we should realize that peace on Earth will never happen. It was intended in the Garden of Eden, with Adam and Eve. After the fall of man, peace on Earth isn't possible. Sin is in the world, is alive in the world, and is what caused 9-11...peace will ONLY be found in heaven. If you truly want peace, make sure you have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ!

Obama...Ramadan okay, but no National Day of Prayer
So here we have a President that has considered himself to be a "Christian", yet does sooo many things right the opposite of what Christian values stand for. Let's face it...as true in life but especially in politics, actions speak louder than words! Now before I continue, let me make a few points. As Christians, we have to have compassion and not push people and groups away (After all, some of these groups are in desperate need on the Jesus that saves us). Therefore, I don't have a problem with Obama associating himself with groups I wouldn't be apart of....IF he were spreading the message of Christ and showing tolerance with the intent to introduce Christ to them!
However, here is my concern...Every May the National Day of Prayer is held. This has taken place since 1952 (and revised to take place the first Thursday in May). This year, Obama decided NOT to participate...atleast publicly. I agree that prayer can be private, but there is also corporate prayer that takes place too. This holiday isn't just about Christianity, I realize that. Be everyone knows that prayer should be a major part of Christianity.
My point, if Obama isn't willing to participate on this day....why in the world would he host a party to start the season of Ramadan? Seriously...does this not bother anyone else?
"Islam, as we know, is part of America," said President Obama. "And like the broader American citizenry, the American Muslim community is one of extraordinary dynamism and diversity - with families that stretch back generations and more recent immigrants; with Muslims of countless races and ethnicities, and with roots in every corner of the world."
So, he glorifies this religion...but downplays others, like Christianity. And if you remember back to one of my prior posts...he also hosted a LGBT party at the white house too! So there you have it, if actions speak louder than words...
Obama has hosted parties for the LGBT community (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender) and for Muslims with a Ramadan party...BUT NOT FOR A NATIONAL DAY OF PRAYER.

Hard Memories...
What to focus on today-If I am openly honest, let's go back to what has been on the fore-front of my mind lately...that is, the passing away of my father. It is such a strange experience losing a loved one. Part of the reason for my thoughts is due to a co-worker who is facing the same reality that I went through a few months ago (His mom is about to die of cancer, while my Dad died as a result of Alzheimer's). I feel so bad knowing what he is going through and the pain associated with it. I honestly never expected to have the feelings I do...may sound strange, but since we dealt with my father's slow decline over the years, I assumed I would be prepared; That I would be ready and that saying bye would give me complete closure. While most of this is accurate, it hurts worst than I anticipated. The hard part...missing and remembering my father for the fun loving, supportive, good hearted man he was to me personally. The memories are the hard part.
Due to me living away from home, I have not been able to go through all of his stuff. However, last time I went home I had to go through a small portion of things. So now, I have a box of memorabilia in my house...a 'hole in one' trophy, pictures from my childhood, his wallet like he left it, his Univ of Alabama ring, his 'Salesman of the Year' plaque, army yearbook,etc...
I guess my challenge is this...if you are reading this then you are obviously still alive! God gave you an opportunity to live, so make the most of it. Too many people just go through the motions of life...God wants us to enjoy life. Yes it can be difficult, lonely, painful, stressful...but the choice is ours...it can also be fun, enjoyable, encouraging to persevere, full of love, etc...Live a life worthy of God and his blessings. Let's not focus on the "thing" that eludes us, but focus on the positives we have already been giving!

Traveling with a purpose...
We love to travel...I realize not everyone has the same desire to go places, BUT I truly think it is God's way of showing us his creation. (Before I say more, I realize there will be some of you whom have been to a lot more places than those mentioned here...but that simply means you get what I am saying and have been blessed). It is easy to stay in our same place, in our same city or state, and never venture outside of it. I often feel "safe" living in the "Bible belt"...but I realize that God created ALL things! It is so cool to see the different people, land, language, etc...although we would love to travel all over the world (between my spouse and I so far, we have been to Canada, Mexico, China, Dominican Republic, England, and the Caribbean islands). Personally, the most beautiful people ever were in the D.R....and the coolest place to see has been the Great Wall of China. It is amazing to see God's creation...Although world traveling is great, we have American goals too. We want to travel to all 50 states. I have been to 39 thus far, my spouse has been to 36 states, and our daughter has been to 10 in her 17 months of life. We truly love traveling...some of our highlights thus far: Grand Canyon, All islands of Hawaii, Washington DC, Yellowstone National Park, Niagra Falls, MEMPHIS, to name a few...my point, if you are able to...get out and see God's creation. I think it helps to see how small we are, how small our city and state are, BUT how BIG God is. He has an imagination like no other...in simple terms, He is God!

Trials & Temptations...
My church "small group" is going through a study on the book of James (from the Bible). As I was reading through 'Be Mature: Growing up in Christ' (based on the book of James)...I jotted down a few points to share. Here are the highlights:
~Trials may be tests sent by God, or they may be temptations sent by Satan and encouraged by our own fallen nature.
~When our circumstances are difficult, we may find ourselves complaining against God, questioning His love, and resisting His will. At this point, Satan provides us with an opportunity to escape the difficulty. This opportunity is temptation.
~No temptation appears as temptation; it always seems more alluring than it really is.
~Process of sin: desire, deception, disobedience, death
~God's gifts are always better than Satan's bargains.
In summary...we need to be aware that God ALWAYS has our best interest at heart. He wants us to succeed. He wants us to win, not fail. When Satan enters the picture, he wants us to fail and turn from God. That is his ultimate goal...to separate us from God. So take this as warning, the Devil is on the prowl. When going through difficult times, look toward God.

More-Sacred Parenting...
As mentioned in the previous post, I am reading the book 'Sacred Parenting'. I will admit as a parent, the parenting process can get tiring...can seem like work. I often feel guilty about that, but none more than my attitude over the last 24 hours. I was just worn out, cranky, and out of character for myself. The beautiful thing about this book, is that I feel God has given me the drive to read it...because He knows that I need focus, rejuvenation, especially as a working mother, wife, and parent. It's sad to say, but sometimes I focus on the work and not the joy parenting brings. Luckily for me, I redirected my focus this afternoon and tuned out the tantrums...and truly focused on the beautiful daughter God gave me! Here are a few direct words from this book...and just so you know, most of them apply to life in general, not just parenting:
~(pg.57)...We say we believe in God, but what good is our belief if it doesn't intersect with everyday life?
~(pg.75)...God shaped our souls in such a way that we become more complete in fellowship. Sin usually leads to isolation-whether it's the sin of substance abuse (picture a lonely drug addict escaping to get her fix), pornography (imagine a man alone in front of a computer), or even the most dramatic of sins-murder (the ultimate denial of fellowship). The Spirit of God, by contrast, moves us toward others, and this movement-though often painful-has the potential to release joy otherwise unknown in human experience.
~(pg.76)...When I prayed only for their (his children) protection, I had to fight off fear. When I prayed merely for God to change them, I lost sight of their strengths. Thanking God for them and specifically meditating on those qualities in their lives for which I am grateful has given me a much greater appreciation for the privilege of living with these children.
~(pg.80)...In other words, being stupidly serious is a mark of being stupidly forgetful. We concentrate on temporal struggles and problems at the risk of forgetting eternal blessings. Even when I've fallen into temptation, after repentance I can find great joy in knowing that God doesn't treat me as my sins deserve. From first to last, the gospel is joy-producing good news.
~(pg.84)...Families start to break down-and marriages often break down, for that matter-when we stop enjoying each other. There is a place for discipline, sacrifice, commitment, and perseverance; but an equally important place exists for enjoyment. those who never take the time to truly enjoy their family miss out on one of the most profound wonders God offers...This type of life does not adequately represent the character of our Creator God.

Sacred Parenting...
So I will admit that I am not the biggest fan of reading, but every now and then I come across something that makes me want to read more. Lately that something has been a book by the name of 'Sacred Parenting'. The following is a few bullet points taken directly from this book. If you have children or desire to have children, this is an excellent read. It truly puts parenting in perspective.
~(pg.39) "As mothers and fathers, we are simultaneously in charge of a child's emotional, physical, intellectual, social, and spiritual well being."
~(pg.33) "In Paul's mind, character gets built by learning to persevere through difficult times. If we never let our kids face difficult times, they'll never become strong enough to make a difference in a very cruel world-as Jesus made a difference on behalf of all of us."
~(pg.35) "I need to allow my kids to face challenges, failures, rejection, and pain, and then teach them to use these seemingly negative events to fuel their sense of mission and to foster their dependence on God."
~(pg.43) "We are not raising robots; we are shepherding image bearers of the Creator God who live with freedom of choice, their own wills, and personal responsibility of their own.
~(pg.43) "On the more encouraging end, none of us can mess up so badly that our children somehow extend beyond the reach of God's mercy.
~(pg.47) "In this sense, we shouldn't look at guilt as a parking lot but as a car wash. When guilt feelings keep us self-absorbed, destroy our motivation, and make us discouraged, guilt has become a parking lot-not a good thing. But when guilt reminds us that we are insufficient, and when this insufficiency points us to God-his forgiveness, his empowering Spirit, and his provision of grace-then guilt becomes a spiritual car wash."
I have a lot more to read in this book, but it has already been packed with a number of things to think about. We (as humans & parents) are not perfect, but in that imperfection we are to realize the goodness of God. Ultimately that is our goal, to show others, including our children, Christ. In some ways it is as simple as that...we are to show Christ and let them take responsibility from there.

Opportunity everywhere...
We have opportunities everywhere...I know that is a vague statement, but to be specific...we have ample opportunity to share God. Obviously we can share God and Christ in sooo many ways, but it's fun to get to be a part of it! A few examples: our church "small group" works at a local homeless shelter every other month. I have somewhat been associated with them for several years now, but our group has been serving for about 1 1/2 years now. It is such a blessing to see God at work and to watch them grow...and don't think we aren't extremely blessed by them too.
My most recent, out of the ordinary opportunity, came on my trip this past weekend. I was sitting on a plane reading a book...the guy beside me realized I was reading about the book of James (from the Bible). To summarize the conversation...he was engaged, had just moved his fiance to a new city, was a Christian who actually served in the ministry at his church, and happen to know more about the book of James. He had a book in his hand that was required for his premarrital counseling...therefore, I told him of another book that was good for marriage (The 6 mosquitoes-actually more of a study and self reflection). What I didn't tell him was that I just happen to bring an extra copy of that study with me. So, as I was waiting to be picked up at the airport...I realized that he was on the phone and was also waiting on his ride. (I have to admit I initially fought this "push" to go give him the copy of the book I had) Anyway, I walked up to him and without saying anything I gave it to him. I will never know if he even looks at it, but I feel I did my part. This isn't meant as a "pat on the back" ...but to encourage you to look for opportunities. They are everywhere...and let's face it, with the way the world is right now (people out of jobs, going through tough times, feeling scared and in doubt, etc) people need encouragement and want to know that God is out there looking out for them. So let's allow God to use us...
