2 Timothy 3:16--> All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness...
I have realized that this verse is the basis for most Biblical arguments. Recently my husband and I started doing a little research on the topic of homosexuality in the Bible. We had been told that homosexuality wasn't mentioned in the New Testament. So, as always we started with 2 Timothy 3:16...then we found a few other New Testament verses on this particular issue:
Romans 1:26-27-->Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts. Even their women exchanged natural relations for unnatural ones. In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed indecent acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their perversion.
1 Corinthians 6:9-10-->Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor male prostitutes nor homosexual offenders no thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God.
Not only on this particular issue of homosexuality, but on all issues...go to the Bible. Yes it is hard to use logic from the Bible when our lives also have an emotional component, but emotion does not trump logic! According to 2 Timothy, ALL SCRIPTURE is God-breathed...so we can't deceive ourselves by only taking parts of the Bible and using them. We are to use ALL parts of the Bible and not just the parts that are "fitting" for our lifestyle. Hope this helps some of you out there if needed. One last plug...this specific issue has become political and is a huge deal going on in our nation right now. Please find out how your elected officials stand on issues like this one (this is a Biblical issue if you claim to be a Christian, so keep the Bible first and our emotions second)
