Tiger & Buddhism

I know this is late news, but I am just able to blog about it...Tiger's public statement in which he stated he will return to Buddhism. I am so glad that Tiger is getting treatment and receiving help. It takes a lot to actually go to rehab for an addition of any sort; For his family's sake, I pat him on the back for putting in effort there. I never heard or watched his statement in its entirety, but the only thing I caught (watched) was on my way out of an office...it was Tiger vowing to return to the Buddhism his mom reared him in. That is the part that breaks my heart. To some, any turn to religion may have sounded good...BUT, that isn't exactly accurate. What I understand about Buddhism is that it's all about what YOU can do, with the ultimate goal...to rid yourself of desire so you can reach "nirvana" or nothingness, then become your own buddha. Buddhism isn't about forgiveness and grace, but about what YOU can do for yourself by ridding yourself of sin (in Christian terms). Let's think about this...if he hasn't been able to have self-control in this area of his life, what makes anyone think he, by himself, will be able to ultimately control it in the future? This brings the whole issue back to the reason Christ is the answer...Christ paid the price for Tiger, for you , for me, for us all. Christ did that for us ("that" being took the penalty of our sin). Christianity is the only "religion" that isn't about us...that isn't about us working our way to heaven, or the after life. That alone sets Christianity apart from all of the rest...it isn't about us, but about Him who offers forgiveness and grace! That's why I feel sorry for Tiger...he will never get complete help without God's help. When you receive and follow Christ, your life can't help but change! I hope and pray Tiger realizes this soon!
