"Free" stuff

I know some of you clip coupons, but why?...to save money? Next question...how much money do you spend on the following per month: food, health care, housing, and your cell phone?

Fyi...I had thought about writing this blog a few weeks ago, then was reminded of this topic when I received an email today. Most everyone knows that the many people rely on our government for what we consider basic needs. I would probably agree that food, health care, and a place to stay fall into those categories. (Let me also clarify, most people may need assistance and help...but I don't think that any of the assistance programs should be longterm-the longterm assistance enables people and holds people back...in their minds, why work for it when you can get it for free?)

So, why in the world would our government offer cell phone assistance now? Yes they are convenient, but cell phones aren't a necessity. (although they feel like it in today's society). When I looked at some of the qualifications for getting this "free" government supported cell phone...it gave this list as a general rule:
  • Federal Public Housing Assistance / Section 8
  • Food Stamps
  • Medicaid
  • Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP)
  • Supplemental Security Income (SSI)
  • National School Lunch (free program only)
  • Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF)
I just think this is ridiculous...our economy is in shambles and we keep giving "free"/taxpayer supported stuff to people (who in some cases don't contribute to our society) Here's the website to see for yourself...if you haven't seen the commercials on tv:
